The 2011 PO.com Oil Price Challenge

Discussions about the economic and financial ramifications of PEAK OIL

Re: The 2011 PO.com Oil Price Challenge

I think the last trading day is the 30th and the EIA report for that day will be the following Wednesday, January 4th.

I'll post the final 2011 scorecard then.

As of December 20, SeaGypsy was #1.
There’s a strange irony related to this subject [oil and gas extraction] that the better you do the job at exploiting this oil and gas, the sooner it is gone.

Third last trading day today. It really closes in. As it looks right now I'm in the lead, barely though. The standing won't be definite before the last trading day is ended.

I'll concede, I think it will drift lower the next couple of days but not enough for me. Close on Friday prediction 97.20, giving it to seagypsy.

"Here We Go!"

I am watching this ticker:

http://www.cx-portal.com/wti/oil_en.html

I like the Dukascopy Bank ticker for near live data. A click of a tab allows one to check Brent Oil or various Metals too.

At $99.04, at the time I type this, SeaGypsy has the lead by a nose...

The EIA report for Dec 30th, (the "official reference") will be released next week.

2 out of 4 aint bad hey? I'm off to write my application to Goldman-Sachs!

It looks like a humble Aussie with a degree in human nature from the school of hard knocks can not only beat all you guys but all the major pundits to boot! How is this possible?

It's like this: I read and I learn. I would not have had a clue without the likes of Pops, the Dude, and many other contributers here at peakoil.com.
I don't bother looking elswhere, beyond linked info on this site, so I guess that proves this is really a repository of knowlege if one looks hard enough.

It's been a fun race again this year, next year is heating up nicely!

All the best to everyone here for 2012! May the can kick on! :)

Good on you, Mate!

Like I said, couldn't have done it withoutcha Pops!
Your ability with explaining incredibly complex minutia and micro/ macro effects; along with your profoundly cool head (given what you know) have been both instructional and inspirational. I think you were the first 'slow crasher' I really 'got'; who I could really believe had all the information and was not looking at the world through any kind of tinted lense. Of course there have been others here but your writing here feature's prominintly in this regard: Knowlege meets balanced reasoning and way with words as well as numbers.
Thanks Pops! :)

Well done, I'm glad I didn't win tbh, things would be even worse if my predictions were right!

Fuel poverty is growing and can only get worse, and it's becoming clearer that there is less spare money around to sustain any price spike without demand destruction kicking in.

That would be yours truly [smilie=blob1.gif]
Which so far gives me a 100% success rating BTW as I only entered last year and this
Final numbers come out next week/ from recall both years my total error has been less than $8.00 each year?
EDIT: looked it up I was $4.88 (most of that on the close) off last year and about a tad under $6.00 off this year.

Good job!

Can anyone calculate the odds of winning 2 consecutive years? (it's been a while since my college Probability and Statistics coursework). Total entrants in 2011 = 41; total entrants in 2010 = 51.

We are getting better at this overall also with 11 players with less than a $20 error as to only 4 last year.

Congratulations, SeaGypsy! Well played. How are you with lottery numbers? lol

I'll post the final scorecard next week after the EIA releases their report. I think that will will be on Thursday because of the New Years holiday.

I'll also post the leader stats for the year.
