I've cut way back on my alcohol consumption since finding out about PO. I realize that the alcohol was keeping me from accomplishing what I wanted (needed) to do. It makes me less productive and motivated, and the cost is not helping financially, either. I feel much better working on my preps than the buzz provides.

It's not only how often and how much you drink, but also what and under what circumstances. For example in France and Italy people drink quite a lot per capita, a bottle of wine every day, but they mostly drink it with dinner at the family table etc.
While in England for example, well I don't have to tell you, they consume the same amount of alcohol on a single saturday night and drink until they are unconscious.

Personally I definitely drink too much, but only together with food. I can't even drink more than one drink when I go out, my face all freezes, I am not really thirsty, my stomach revolts and so on.
But when eating some great dinner I empty a bottle of wine easily within an hour, and then it's a fantastic feeling to be drunk, although normally I just crush out then...

Regarding pot, yes, I also would say that it generally is less damaging than alcohol, but the long term effects can be at least as devastating. It destroys the brain and makes you very slow.
Also people who are addicted probably don't notice it, but it's such an annoying habit! The potheads all get very nervous if for some reasons they can't build one right NOW, and their only thought evolves around it. But the nicotine junkies are even worse in that respect.

Good food, good wine or beer, and afterwards a good cigarre, now that's a joy! And I bet it's even healthier than to be totally abstinent! People who enjoy life live longer!

Well the owner of the off-licence knows be by name, that is usually not a good sign.

But I think it's mainly because of amount the money I spend there, not because of the quantity of alcohol I consume.

One of my joys is my liquor collection (I guess I have more types of alcohol than specop has guns). I love a good single malt or a good bottle of wine and I'm willing to pay for it. I like to invite some friends over for some good food and some alcohol. I also like to have a drink in the evening. Just shut off the TV en enjoy the silence before I head to bed. When I go out I drink a bit more but very rarely to the point where I am drunk.

I honestly cannot understand why someone would buy a cheap bourbon and gulp it down in one evening.

Overall I think I'm a moderate consumer. I do drink every day, but usually not more than one or two glasses. In my view that is a healthy consumption.

Never, because:

1) Alcohol consumption is illegal for me
2) Caffiene is MUCH better

I’ll drink a Pabst or two once in a while. If I’m feeling crazy I’ll have a Busch Lite here and there.

I’m allergic to all hard liquor except high end Gin (love them Gin drinks). I can swill Gin and Tonics all night. If you like Gin … try Van Gogh (if you can find it). Very smooth and virtually hang over free.

I am allergic to hard alcohol as well, it swells my ego something terrible!*
:-D

Seriously I drink beer way too often, not quite on ‘Sober?” level but more than >3 days. Not sustainable so far but I’m planting grapes as fast as possible. :)

Kudos to the quitters!

Only to find that my opponent's holding Kryptonite
You'd think I'd learned my lesson but, I'm still paying dues.
Each time I drink and start to think I'm ten feet tall and bulletproof.

Next to never but, if some shrooms fell into my lap I'd go on a trip. I just never thought much of an alcohol buzz, doesn't do much for me.

hey, I'm Derek, I'm an alchoholic.

I must confess that I drank in the last few days. I don't believe alchohol is the way to go, I don't believe alcohol will be a part of the post-Peak realit, but I had to do it.

Hi Derek!

---

This is for you d. (guess I’m feeling lyrical today):

There's many a man I've seen in my day
Who lived just to labor his whole life away
Like a fiend with his dope and a drunkard his wine
A man will have lust for the lure of the mine

- Merle Travis

A trip down the mine don’t sound fun to me.

Everthing in moderation is the ideal for me, and that includes not only alcohol and cannabis but sugar, cocoa, white bread, and caffiene too. Also, all those substances effect everyone very differently. I'm still young, and I probably party too much, but my 'desert island' intoxicant would be cannabis. I only like the really good stuff, and I've noticed I don't "jones" when it's not around. It's all about willpower and discipline.

Hopefully after Peak, when I'm not hauling water or slicing dogmeat with the jagged edge of a CD, I'll be able to guard my cannabis plants. Save seeds while you can, and include industrial hemp in your seed collections if you can, just make sure the varieties never cross-pollinate.

Brewing and winemaking will be valuable skills, I'm sure.

I'm done with the drinking. The bottle of tequila is gone as well as a six pack of Abita Beer. (TurboDog, mmmm)

But honestly, as much as i would like to obliterate my feelings about Peak Oil, what good will that do? I've got to get busy planning to survive. Despite it all I want to live. If I have to make a few lifestyle adjustments, so be it. I'll adapt. I am an alcoholic and i won't be drinking. Pretty cool stuff. :)

Thanks Pops, I got some coffee now.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Schweinshaxe', 'I') drink a bottle of wine a day. When I go to work, I have a really bad hangover. Every day...

Then you must drink bad wine. Since you are in Germany you should have easy access to crisp and clean dry Rieslings. The Germans just don't appreciate their own wine and drink cheap Spanish and the like instead. I drink since 17 years every evening a couple of beers followed by a bottle of wine in average (sometimes more but that pushes it to the limit and I always keep in mind when drinking that "I want to be able to drink the following day as well", which keeps me self regulated.

I had my doubts as well from time to time and wondered if I was in an addiction without noticing it. So I interupted my drinking habits from time to time but nothing ever happend, it simply is just boring without drinking, that's all.
