$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('swifty', 'P')erhaps I am looking for emotional support, but I am questioning my passion for staying informed/educated about what is going on in this world. My sister just let me know that she feels that I am too passionate about the state of injustice/greed/corruption in our system. She makes the case that there is nothing we can do to fix the system so why stress and be depressed. We should try to enjoy life and do the best for our own selves. She went on to say the people she knows that DO NOT read or listen to news are some of the happiest. She finishes by saying that my arguments are my opinion and that others feel just the opposite and are sure of themselves also.
Stay informed, but (and this applies to me too) try to temper the passion. Try to take a cold, clinical attitude to all the bad stuff in world. When it comes to passion you might even try viewing your own emotions and behaviour from an outside point of view (not easy).
Some people suffer from excessive altruistic sentiments which might be partly innate and partly social examples (play this well and the shaggin' can be good). You can't save the world (WTF does such a phrase mean anyway?) but well-knit communities can save themselves. So communicating and forming a good local network is important.
Your sister is right: chill out and enjoy, while you can. You can have both (being informed and not a pain to your associates) and that's nice for you and those in contact with you.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('swifty', 'A')nyway I guess I am just wondering if I am wasting my life. I feel like I am in the minority of people when I talk about things like the healthcare mess or the PO problem, or the war. The attitude seems to be if you can't fix it, while bother with it!
Nah, I reckon many have similar feelings but suppressed somehow or they just don't want to be the one bringing it up. Don't come the preacher to people. I drop hints in conversation and often find people are receptive - I let them choose whether to continue the subject or not.
I come to po.com for my news fix and therapy. I feel like I'm not a lone weirdo when I'm here. But we are taken seriously now.
