Rosie Proves Herself Once Again

Unread postby MD » Mon 20 Apr 2009, 07:41:12

As the rest of the world gushes over Susan Boyle's performance on British TV's talent show, Rosie once again demonstrates her mean spirited cynicism with this observation:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '&')quot; That moment is what every artist tries to capture," O'Donnell tells PEOPLE "Here is this freaky miss, a fat, ugly girl, like Shrek comes to life, directing energy towards her soul. This was so rare ... something authentic in a world that is usually manufactured. It was a perfect moment which will never happen again."

Way to go Rosie! Send Susan straight back to the scrap heap. We mustn't let the emotion of the moment carry us beyond the "reality".

Cue up the next Hannah Montana!

Link?
& maybe HOF had been the right section?

Based on that quote I am hoewever not totally sure what Rosie is actually trying to state.
I mean the words fat, ugly etc are not nice but they seem to be used more to accentuate the gap between the impression people got from just looking to the revalued impression after she started to sing. And as far as I understood it Rosie was impressed that such a moment that normally had to be manufactured actually is genuine.

But why you put the last sentence in bold, I have no idea.
Rosie seems to think this is a once in a lifetime event that cannot be repeated...so what?
I of course disagree as this was a repeat of a similar wow event with Paul Potts, and it can happen again, but I don't see why you make it a big deal.

Is this an example of how you can read the same text in two completely different ways?

Peak Oil is a fat ugly problem with a voice which cannot be ignored.
Yet somehow, being fat and ugly means people are mostly deaf to it.
Who is the Susan of Peak Oil?

Don't know. The right voice hasn't stepped forward yet. Are you offering? Do you have the pipes?

Rosie brought up WTC7 on a national show.

OK by me after that.

I think Rosie was using Irony as her choice of weapon, and NOT picking on Ms. Boyle, (who IS a "winner" in spirit, talent and humour!) but *using* her to tag what MOST people WOULD think about her nowadays. (or at least what the media would have us think about folks who would look like that and *dare* to speak up or show us they have any talents at all.

It is because *she* is not from the beauty queen camp herself, she speaks about this, and is using this story as a guide to teach all of us that maybe our society, as self-absorbed it is in beauty (ie. "nip-tuck") become a little more open-minded about what true beauty REALLY is.

Ms. Boyle showed us what it is, and she has it in spades.
Rosie *attempts* to illustrate a story about what she, along with many other plain-jane, plus-size, or other ladies considered "non-beauties" go through now a days, all in the pursuit of a cult that many will suffer to join, only to be cast out when the first wrinkle appears, the first grey hairs show themselves, or the breasts sag after nursing their children, or the first cellulite appears on the thighs.

..and then theres others who never seem interested in that sort of thing in the first place...but for the content of a person's heart, and for the graces carried within.

Which is a fine point, and a philosophy to be embraced, but I'm not seeing either in Rosie O'Donnell or Donald Trump. One bitter, the other power-crazed. Both connected to Media.

I'm betting Susan Boyle rejects all makeovers and/or absorption into Media. Hoping actually.

We'll see.

Funny comment... almost exactly what I thought when I saw Rosie in that Hanks baseball movie.

The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

Warning, you have been RickRolled again..

Well, it's obvious that this was just yet another bittersweet TV manipulation. That singing lady, Susan Boyle was certainly auditioned, had to sing in earlier round of preselection managed by the production of that programme in some capacity, so the "surprise" was a fake one. I wish her best of luck, but the media circus is just sick..

It's like the story of new White House dog.
Remember, "They live!" theme aka obey, work, reproduce.

*I don't think so, yes, she had to sing, but she could have chosen a song that didn't have the "range" that the final song had. The last song, is very hard to sing, and you have to have a masterful range in your voice. I also don't think Simon and the rest of those folks had exposure to her either, the look on their faces, the surprise was very genuine. I don't think they were "rickrolled", but yes, I DO think the Producers knew something was afoot.
This is just the beginning of that program, I have heard, so there can be more "Susan's" in the crowd!
I don't watch TV, and won't have the time either, as our garden centers are opening up for the Season, but I do wish them all luck and courage!
