Road Rage

Unread postby GD » Mon 06 Jun 2005, 09:09:20

This is a clip of someone in the back of an SUV making an attempt to knock a cyclist over with the vehicle door.

Warning - not for the faint hearted! link

4 months ago called, they want thier video back. :P

For the record, the kid came out pretty well actually. It certinaly didnt kill him, but his face was FUBAR'd and required some surgery but I think he should make a pretty well full recovery.

PS: Yes, he got exactly what he deserved.

Is it really, it looked to me like someone was pushing someone else out the back of a car.

Nope, he was trying to clip the cyclist. Part of this stupid happy slapping craze that's in the news a lot these days, where chavs gang up and video themselves hitting someone and running away, then send the clips to each other.

Video demonstrates that occasionallly Justice does prevail.

As for "Happy Slapping" in general, around here such activity will more likely end up with hospital visits, or worse, and not for the intended victim.

Our state allows concealed weapons.....

I don't have the right kind of player -- it seems. However, if the person was trying to knock
a bicylist over with a car door, (was the car moving?) and fell out and got hurt, great.
But, that individual should also be arrested for ADW, and if the driver of the car was aware
of what was going on, even helping by driving close enough, then all should be charged with
conspiracy to commit murder too (or at least conspiracy to commit ADW.) There is a chance
that they could kill the bicyclist , hence the attemted murder charge. Add the camera-person as
well, if he/she was different from the actor.

Just my opinion.

Whither road rage?

Unread postby SchroedingersCat » Sat 11 Nov 2006, 01:30:52

I'm curious what will happen to all the rage that is currently vented through driving. We have the aggressive freeway games, the 'get pissed at the pedestrian' games, the 'scare the bicyclist' games, et al.

At least here in the U.S., there is an amazing amount of barely controlled violent behavior sitting inside 2 tons of high-powered steel. Even when one of these miscreants kills people they get off with 'vehicular manslaughter.' I can personally attest to almost weekly encounters with these psychopaths, and I know many other people with similar stories.

What happens when these freaks can no longer use their motor vehicles as their personal expressions of their angst? When they can't threaten a pedestrian in a crosswalk or cut off someone doing the legal speed limit on the freeway, where will they channel their rage? How will we as a society help these pathetic, micro-endowed auto-deprived integrate into society?
Civilization is a personal choice.

"Whither," not "Wither." A wither is a part of a horse!

Just as one can be an armchair warmonger on the Internet because of the anonomity of it, people get away with road rage because they are relatively insulated from those around them.

Take away their ton or two of armor and aggressive people will have to learn to be civil again. :)

It's a false comfort, as those who have suffered from tragic results can attest.

What is a false comfort? The sense of anonomity? Or the fact that people are going to have to treat each other better when they have less to hide behind?

If it's the former, I agree. If it's the latter, I don't understand what you mean.

Explain, please. :?

I have to disagree with you (for once). If you were to observe rats in a cage, they are very social creatures, have definite social structure all without too much fuss.

But when you put too many together you get highly aggressive dominating behaviour. they fight for top dog etc. this doesn't happen in a cage where there aren't one too many. People don';t b eling pack in cities and this is part of the reason why we see this social breakdown.

The jails are full of examples of this but no one wonders why. The only thing that will fix this is when we go back to having enough space for each person.

The only reason I think they don't act like this now (outside their cars) is because they are too worried that there is someone bigger than them that will give them a thumping. but cars take that deterrent away and they act like the animals we all are.

There's also the question of the extent to which road rage is actually caused by undergoing the daily crush of congestion. I know I get pretty pissed off after inching in traffic for an hour or two, and I'm a pretty calm person. I think that, coupled with the anonymity you guys mentioned, is what causes the phenomenon.

(Katanas, huh? How about we maintain our anonymity with masks, Master Blaster style? 8) )

Road rage is yet another bizarre, ephemeral byproduct of cheap energy. We've got machines doing all the work for us, so that leaves us plenty of somatic energy to burn and waste.

A hard day on the farm leaves no energy for road rage or any kind of rage.
