$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('duke', 'W')hat...you don’t even have a full years worth of food? You are counting on using other peoples and exchanging your good looks and charm for it? You don’t have top end night vision? You don’t need it? You just plan on sleeping at night? You have time to blog about it...but don’t have it? Get a second or third job and get it and your own food...fool.
The other guy will sure have night vision as the stuff is sold everywhere even on Ebay. Predators love the cover of darkness....

Night vision goggles... Something I never thought of before. See, reading these forums isn't a waste of time!

So you're going to prepare for an apocolypse in the kind of close but not so forseeable future that may or may not even happen because it follows dubious predictions by people whose previous predictions (I'm looking at you matt simmons) have been wrong wrong wrong........

In the end, many politicians will wish they had listened to Matt Simmons rather than IEA and CERA, even if some preliminary predicted dates were off. But now even IEA is catching up to the grim reality (with as much optimist spin as they can conjure). Economic collapse will happen because of PO, that's 100% sure. As for social collapse, the jury is still out. Different countries and regions will fare differently in that regard.

So what kind of time frame can we expect that to happen, next decade?

The Oil Drum is probably the best site for up-to-date information on oil decline. I'm pretty sure that the collapse will be well underway by 2012.

Bricks have already begun to fall and girders now start to buckle. Look around you, my good man! The whole thing could come crashing down at any moment. You really want to stand your ground in the lobby? Most don't see or understand the real danger of the damage done. Those of us who do are seeking the nearest emergency exit. Good luck to you, sir!

well, if this is true, I have to say, it isn't near the hassle I thought it would be. I didn't get the chance to run over a single zombie on my way to work yesterday, and once the traffic jam started from all the other people going to work, I figured, maybe a few layoffs would cure this particular problem, since peak oil appears to have already cured the price of gasoline problem.

I must say, even though I couldn't disagree with you more, I have to give you credit for your humor. You made me laugh genuinely, and that ain't easy these days. Thanks.

Yes, but not because we are running out of resources, it is because of irrisponsible monetary policies + credit deregulation + shitty lending practices.

You guys do realize that in the 70's there were many people who did the exact same things as you for exactly the same reasons.......when their doom predictions didn't happen the vast majority of them came crawling back to civilization looking like total fools. Will history repeat itself or will the doomers finally (for once in a millennium) be right? Stay tuned......

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ayame', '
')I thought we had already determined that prepping is pretty futile. Everyone will just be swept along in the tide of muck when SHTF. Everyone will want a piece of your preps then. There are just too many JUST TOO MANY of us bipedal apes and the government will have plans probably.

You can't prep your way out of peak oil? Whatever do you mean? What will all these people dreaming of being a thug Lord in a mad max world post peak do?

I post in the usually in the evenings when I'm taking a break from work and prepping. I like reading this site to get new ideas and updates. Generally I'll post my food prep stuff, but anymore I am becoming more "mum" about my amount of weaponary preparations and storage. My husband is becoming more and more involved and sitting here with the laptop and reading some of the more informative posts helps us to brainstorm about what else we should be doing. Since he was in the military, he finds it really fun to have a wife that wants to buy another gun or scope etc. He wasn't as excited about the grain mill (oh well).

Well, if we can't laugh during the horrendous events/Depression unfolding around us which apparently involves 6.5% unemployment, scarcity of electricity which doesn't stop any of us from posting, shortages of $2.00/gal only in California, and wonderful investment opportunities in real estate, I say, when CAN we laugh?

Don't be mean, some of THOSE people are still hiding in caves, practicing home dentistry on themselves, waiting for the gold they bought in 1980 to finally be worth as much as they paid for it.

I say we need to memorialize Paul Ehrlich with a bust or something, maybe his picture on every page, with some decent dieoff quote, changing each time the page changes?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Loki', 'I')'m done with this board. Adios.
My final advice to y'all: Stop posting and start prepping. Every minute posting on this site is a minute wasted. Prep or post. Your choice.

The two aren't mutually exclusive. Done in the right proportions, one can be complementary to the other.
Not our fault if you didn't figure out the correct mixture.

Actually if they had the good sense to sell into the $1030 high earlier they would have made something in nominal terms :)
