I spent yesterday with Bas' friends, and some time in his room, it was all very emotional. I'm definitely pleased I came, in addition to my own need to come to terms with his loss, I also feel I'm representing peakoil.com which was an important part of his life. I'll be at his service today.

It was a beautiful sunny day, all his friends and family were there. He was very special to so many people, it was a privilege to know him. I was made to feel extremely welcome by everybody, and while it was a desperately sad occasion the feeling of love for Bas was palpable, it was an honour to be able to say goodbye.

I have been away for 2 weeks and this is just one big shock... I found a lot of meaning in what Bas posted and I will miss his input.

I'm not sure if this is appropriate, but my step-daughter would have been 30 this month. She died seven years ago aged 22, full of hope and not having been ground down by life.

To Bas' family and friends, it takes time to get over the grief. The pain can be unbearable. But it does subside. However, you never forget and nor should you. God bless.

Haven't posted much here recently. Just wanted to express my deepest sympathies for Bas and all those close to him. He'll be missed.

I realize I am coming to this late, but I just want to say that I liked and admired Bas. He was a calm and level-headed moderator and a pleasure to work with when I too was a moderator. He always struck me as a wise and good man.

Bas was definitely an outstanding person, I remember thinking , "this dude is cool", whenever we would engage, he will be remembered and missed.
