The budgets and the wars need to be funded with something other than borrowed money.

The defense budget of ~$754 Billion uses up about 80% of the total revenues from the IRS.

The remainder of the US budget is borrowed.

Anyone here think that the 'defense' budget isn't the highest priority right now?

If it weren't maybe people would be willing to admit that it alone is bankrupting us. yet in all the budget cutting discussions I see and hear, welfare and other entitlements are the most commonly blamed. Its like 'defense' is a sacred cow that must not be touched and this cow must grow by 7% a year or we will all lose our freedom. yes those guys in Afghanistan are doing a great job of protecting my freedom <sarcasm>.

If the armed forces were tasked with that, they would have DC under siege right now or it would already be captured and all the liberty-takers would be in Gitmo right now.

Taxes ain't goin down, I don't give a crap what new 'plan' is devised. VAT will just be added to our current system IMO.

Extend and Pretend can't go on forever.

I've got an even better idea. Get rid of most of the military and quit funding war profiteers. There I just saved you several billion a year, and counting!

You are right there Threadbear. Some wise man said that when the ratio of soldiers in a country to the number of farmers in a country gets too far out of whack, famine follows. But my original post was sort of a question. What will be the end result in the USA for example. The Tea Baggers are growing in number, protesting high taxs, big government in the Capitol cities all over the USA. Now the Unionized workers are protesting demanding no cuts and more Taxes to pay for their wages and benefits. This could be a very interesting year in politics and life in the USA. Seems the tensions are ratchetting up.

But there aren't any high taxes for them to protest. They're protesting something which doesn't exist.

My husband is in a union (SAG) and there are no taxes which pay for his wages and benefits. Which unions get wages and benefits paid for by taxes?

Ludi I don't live in the uSA but read their signs, and many of them are about Taxes and Big Government.

Like I say, they're protesting something that doesn't exist, really. They're all worried about something which probably isn't going to affect them unless they're in the top income bracket in which case their taxes might go up about 3%.

Nothing is stopping them from writing a fat check to the US treasury. When they say "raise my taxes", they mean "force other people to pay."

Two observations:

Everyone likes to recieve, but no one likes to give.

Public employees and unionized workers feel they have an iron rice bowl.

I pay about half of my income in taxes on some level. That's a helluva lot. And government workers are getting raises at a much higher rate than private sector employees.

Well, if all governmental freeloaders ( how many are there? 20% of the population?)
were unemployed, as well as those who get their income and jobs thanks to their spending, would you be able to get and keep your job? Would your job even exist? And paid as much as it does now?

Tea Party Is Like ACORN Tapes - Fox News Hoax

Unread postby PrestonSturges » Mon 26 Apr 2010, 00:49:08

The tea party is a splinter of the GOP with massive dose of free PR from Fox and corporate sponsorship.

Pat Buchannan claims they are a new White Power movement, in a column he published on Hitler's birthday along with a statement from that Polish guy being tried as a Nazi. The real Nazis at Stormfront were very very excited over this.

The Tea party is flabby elderly "Christian" dingbats, flabby elderly libertarians, flabby elderly conspiracy theorists, and flabby elderly racists. If they were atracting veterans and skinheads, they would scare the bejeezus out of me, but this is just the GOP cannibalizing its own resources.

Of course government workers want higher taxes.

They know that their bloated salaries and benefits depend entirely on squeezing tax revenue from the private sector.

They've been slobbering at the public trough a long time now. By now, they probably even think they're "earning" their money/benefits.
