$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Sixstrings', '
')The author pinned the problem on the fact that most workers were no longer craftsmen, and therefore got no personal satisfaction from their work, and had no control over the work.

First off, not everybody is the equivalent of Charlie Chaplin in Modern Times. Not all jobs are cut from the same cloth. For instance, my mom paints clothing for a living. She's essentially a self-employed craftsperson. But guess what? She's STILL a workaholic who was never able to strike the proper work/life balance. She's just as careerist and consumerist as anybody else. She's filled two houses with "stuff" in the George Carlin meaning of the word, and not come close to finding fulfillment. She can't even reserve a long enough block of time to shut-off her existential to-do list and watch the permaculture videos I've sent her. She can only see one foot in front of her face.

Thus far in my life I have observed a lot of middle aged people without kids.

They're nuts, they're breaking down, they can't handle life. I meet very few old people who never had kids, then tend to drop off before then for one reason or another.

Would I be going too far in thinking some biological imperative forces you to eliminate yourself if you fail to have children? You're just wasting resources, you're a failed mutation, why would there not be system in place to free your resources?

No offence to anyone, I'm sure if there is such a system drugs can correct it.

That may be a wee bit over the top, reality is people who live alone are more susceptible to death from accidental causes. Especially things like slip and fall accidents in the shower or on the stairs and they can not get to a phone to call for help.
Most accidental deaths in private residences happen in the bathroom for this reason.

Can I get the name of the insomnia medication, so I can tell my ex-wife to get some?

One man's honey is another man's poison.
Plenty of parents die young after going nuts too Ainan.
Talking about 'Old people without children'; I work with a bunch of Catholic nuns. The oldest is 92 and still travels the world on her own pegs, besides being one of the sanest people I ever met.
Very few people born before the 60's had the option to 'not breed'. Unless you hang out with very religious folk or very gay, you chances of meeting anyone childless over the age of 60 are slim.

Sorry if I offended anybody. I've been having a hard time knowing when to be tactful of late.

I'd suggest joining a church Tanada, religion will really help you. I'd suggest Christianity, there's no penalty for not really believing in it.

What a post, do you realize there are also people, who are proud and vocal about their decision not having children, be it for reasons not passing diseases, or any other, incl. "environmental" ones. At the same time they don't have problems with offsprings in their inner family circle like nephews or completely un-related kids etc. Sometimes it's pretty bold decision to make.

What about these prevailing "failed mutations", who have been massproducing like crazy since they hit that fossil fuels [suger cube] few centuries ago, and terraformed this planet beyond recognition in response, how do you like it, from this viewpoint hah?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Tanada', 'W')hy bother?

Granted you came back a bit later to explain the despondence and its artificiality; but its an interesting question in a general sense as well.

Humans have a comparably tiny degree of genetic variation between us all; perhaps so much so that behaviors you engage in, that enhance overall welfare and survival, also have the effect of furthering the survival of a large portion of your genetic identity.

On a more individual level. A simple question can be asked, "to what purpose do I chose to live." It need not be some noble answer, "to relax comfortably in my recliner and watch football" or "to spend my evenings fishing for bass in the dark" are perfectly good answers.

Maybe one might be doing too much labor for what their true purposes are; essentially stealing time from it, in order to work more and present a more affluent image to those that are around.

If one is working six days a week to support a house in order for the neighbors to look upon one with admiration, when their true desire is to photograph a bunch of grasshoppers, then perhaps a revaluation of priorities and commitments is called for.
Yes, we are. As we are.
And so shall we remain; Until the end.

I have to agree, a very good point AgentR. A question we all should ask ourselves often.

I haven't had any biological kids (that I know of), but am comforted in knowing that kids never want to do what their parents tell them to do.

They are much more influenced by their uncles and aunts, or whoever fills that niche.
