BBC's Survivors series -- good doomer porn

Unread postby Loki » Sat 27 Mar 2010, 16:05:21

Back in the 1970s the BBC ran a series called Survivors. Scenario is that there is a massive plague that kills off 90%+ of the world's population. It follows a few British survivors and their attempt to rebuild society. Pretty darn good show despite the dated production values. I particularly liked how they showed people trying to start up a subsistence farm and was disappointed when they moved away from that story line. It ran for 3 seasons, about 39 hour-long episodes. Don't think it's available on DVD, I had to resort to a torrent.

The BBC has produced a remake. They ran the first season in 2008 then had a long lag before the second season finally came out recently. I'm still making my way through the latter. A lot of similarities to the first series, though it has much better production values. Also a bit on the PC side (I had no idea the UK was 90% black and Pakistani). The approach is a bit different than the original series, more Road Warrior, less ecovillage. Still entertaining, though. I find it highly amusing that the jerk with the double-barreled duck gun is considered "heavily armed" and is able to push everyone around. They'd piss their panties if they saw my AR.

Good doomer porn. I highly recommend both the original and the new series. I don't understand why British TV seasons are so short, though. They only made 6 episodes for the second season and now we'll probably have to wait another year and a half for the next 6 episodes. I just hope TEOTWAWKI doesn't happen before that

Sounds interesting, I'll keep an eye out for it.

Another illuminating show is History channel's Life After People. It's really amazing all the bizarre things that would happen if people just stopped going to work one day. 8O That would affect a person's odds of survival, where you're living in new environmental conditions and have no idea what the new dangers are.

I have the origianal series on my Iphone and luv it. The new series has just started in Aus so am looking forward to it.
They are based on a noveel by Terry Nation. The book focus more on Peter (The lost son) and how he ends up leading the good guy army and defeats the bad guy army.
In the book Peter kills his mother who is searching for him. He didnt recognise who she was. Book was very good and I would recomend it if you can find it
There never was much hope. Just a fool's hope.

I forgot to mention that the doctor character (Anya) in the newest series is played by our very own Smallpoxgirl! Let's give her a hand!
