You know....for a peak oil website.....

Unread postby shortonsense » Sat 20 Mar 2010, 13:57:01

I am amazed by the topics which show up every time I hit the "Active Discussions" button.

Here's the Top 5.

Obama surrenders Gulf Of Mexico oil to Russia

18 myths of health care

Climate sensitivity

Obama and March madness

4 degree's and beyond

So...we've got 2 "Obama's", 2 climate changes, and the word oil used exactly once, and its not peak oil related, and its not even very Russia related, its about Cubans drilling where Cubans are perfectly justified to drill.

I'm still thinking we need a name change if we're not going to talk much about peak oil anymore....

Peak Oil is just a fine name for me, Just talking about peak oil only can be boring and will limit this site to about 1/3 of what it is, it seems that $147 a barrel of oil did change the economics in the world, changes are happening every where still from this high oil, I waiting for when it goes above $100 again and that might be very soon.

Yeah but about a year ago it was all 'bunkering down, getting ready to kill marauding zombies."

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('hillsidedigger', 'T')he zombies approach.

An oldie but a goodie!

I imagine that quite a few long for the day when peak oil was still in the future, nearly anyone would bite on nearly any scenario, the more fantastic the better, each poster trying to one-up the next, MZB's being my personal favorite ( I consider myself a few IQ points dumber for having learned what those initials stand for ).

How things have changed.

Have you looked at the other forums out there? LATOC and Chris Martenson's forums both have the same mix of topics. This site does a good job with the numerous forums though, so if you really are just inerested in peak oil stuff then all you have to do is click the link under forums.

And for hardcore oil-and-nothing-but-oil there's the Oil Drum.

Oil Drum has plenty of generic limits-to-growth stuff. What TOD is light on is tinfoil and revolutionaries, which is an improvement.

Nah...TOD is morphing towards green-ness just like ASPO.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', '
')I am amazed that this erudite site still attacks religious fundamentalists such as yourself.

This is my thread, the topic is in the correct place, and I would appreciate it if the local troll would do something other than accuse posters of whatever brand of religious crackpottery you wish to blame your personal troubles on, your low self esteem, or whatever it is that causes your constant interruptions among the adults.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', '
')One would think that a place for science would be unattractive to a Creationist such as yourself. Wouldn't you feel more comfortable with the Tea-Bag crowd over at Glenbeck.rel?

I am not familiar with Glen Beck, nor the nature of your delusions this evening. Please do yourself, and the reputation of your alma mater, a favor, and quit while you are ahead. Otherwise, the mods will have to erase whatever foul language infested screed you decide to substitute for posting, again, and to be honest, we really don't need yet another example of what a massive inferiority complex and seclusion can do to a person. Can we just have the old pstarr, the happy pstarr back? Pretty please?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'S')hort, why don't you start your own? Maybe you could call it Peakoildebunked.nit? .

Or perhaps NONSENSE.COM ... or maybe IDIOTBOY.COM

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'S')horty, I am sorry that you are not able defend your own beliefs with more conviction. I understand that Creationism is not as popular now as when you developed your religious attachments. Maybe it is time to move on?

I am sorry for the psychological condition which constrains your short and long term memory. Feel free to review my position at your leisure. This will require both reading comprehension skills and just a smidgen of thinking. Sorry. Maybe you have a child in 2nd grade who can do that for you, and then they can post and pretend to be you? The upgrade in the quality of conversion will probably be noticed by others, but that can't be helped.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'O')kay. Let's make amends, skip the animosity, and get back to the topic. WTF is exactly wrong with the Peakoil.com?

We have a majority of non-Peak Oil/resource depletion conversations going on, which, as hard as the mods might want to restrict to a peak oil context, aren't. The separation of the OT stuff into its own sections is a good start, but how the science denialists and political and financial angles came to predominate the general conversation is disconcerting. There are other places for those conversations.

You have to admit, he can be as amusing as all get out when he's on a tear. As accurate as a chimpanzee quoting Shakespeare, but certainly amusing.
