I don't know if we should "believe" in dieoff.

Maybe we should (or not) find dieoff theory to be robust and well-supported by evidence. Evidence suggests animals which use up the necessary resources of their environment will probably suffer die-off. There are theories that humans are not animals, but these aren't scientific. If humans are animals, can they use up necessary resources? Evidence suggests they can. Will they then suffer die-off? Some people think yes, some no. I'm not convinced the evidence to support the "no die-off for humans" theory is robust.
