Effect of TDP on geopolitics

Unread postby Tanada » Sat 07 May 2005, 13:31:43

One of the dirty little secrets of Thermal Depolymerization is it can convert Asphault grade tars into light crude consuming aprox 15% of the material converted to power the process. This would allow Trinidad to build a TDP plant and run its large asphault lake reserve through the process to create a wealth of oil money for this small country. Similerly Venezuala can do the same thing with its pitch lakes.

How will it change the face of geopolitics and depletion estimates when these plants get built? The people at CWT are in it for money as well as improving the world so I doubt they will be eager to deal with CHavez, but I see no reason for them to avoid deals with Trinidad.

TDP is a net energy losing technology.

The world's only working TDP plant will soon shut down.

Where in the world do you get the idea that TDP is an energy loosing technology?

Secondly while the TDP plant in Carthage is suffering from financial hurdles at the moment in the USA both of the major causes are political. When they built the plant they expected to get the biodeisel credit of $1.00 per gallon which has been withheld to this point, but which is pending as an amendment in the conference commitee process for the energy bill. They also expected the law restricting the use of animal processing waste for animal feed to pass but it died in comitee last year. This double blow increased there cost per barrel of diesel to go from $15.00 to $80.00. If PO happens this year and prices spike to $80.00 or more per barrel for crude then the TDP plant in Carthage will start making money instead of loosing it. If the Bio-diesel credit gets passed they would be profitible right now. If bio-deisel credit gets through, animal processing waste gets restricted and the price of crude reaches $80.00 per barrell they will be doing very well.
