Who will be the medic?

Postby IronSheik » Thu 22 Jul 2004, 00:29:53

Someone has fallen and broken leg.
Another has 8" gash in leg.
One more that has been shot.

Could you provide medical care?

Set a leg?
Sew stitches?
Dig out bullet?

Do you have skills?
Tools?
Whiskey?

IronSheik does not worry.
Like many of cousins,
much practice on many camels.

IronSheik has many dead camels.
Can let them go cheap!
Let me know.
Do your part for the economy...
Spend all your money.

I'm starting to like the Sheik.

He's sorta like the Mr. Rogers of PeakOil.com
The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities.

Mister Rodgers was wise but he was soft. Ironsheik is hard like iron thus his name!

I have been trained as a first responder. Unfortunately, first responders are taught to send the patient on to a hospital after beginning treatment. I believe I can set a bone. I know I can stop bleeding and deliver a baby.
Peace out!

Actually, the whiskey would have two functions: to KO the patient and also as an anti-septic. Saliva is also an option as an anti-septic, though not as effective, hypnosis is also very effective, particularly with shooting pains, and garroting can put a patient into the land of nod pretty quickly.

Has anyone figured out how to do a Caeserean? I still can't quite figure out where to slice.
There'll be war, there'll be peace
But one day all things shall cease
All the iron turned to rust
All the proud men turned to dust
So all things time will mend
So this song will end

I could tell you where to slice but I'm not sure that's very responsible!! :)

Put it this way, the intention is to penetrate the stomach wall without stabbing the baby or causing terminal bleeding to the mother.
The rest you should seek out from qualified sources..

Sheik,
hope when time come you remember all friends here and cousins.
Hope you can go cheap all the oil to friends and cousins of peakoil.com.

About Caesarians, I had one (glad it wasn't one of you to cut me), and the doctor said that a Caesarian is the most bloody surgery you can do. Lot of blood everywhere and you must be fast to sew or the girl is gone.
Better practice on a dead camel...

Whiskey

Postby Cool Hand Linc » Thu 22 Jul 2004, 16:07:27

Don't waste the whiskey on the patient. The patient will pass out from pain pretty quick. Just hold them down.

If you are going to cutt on a patient. Infection will be a hugh problem. Assuming you can keep from killing them and get all the blood veins sealed so internal bleeding doesn't occur. The whiskey should be used to clean your hands before surgury. Using sterile everything is pretty important.
Peace out!

Might want to add certain opiates to the list. It's not that I'm advocating illegal drug use or poppy production; some kind of painkiller just might be helpful with such wounds.

I read a story recently of a woman who gave herself a Cesarean when she was stranded and was presenting breech.

Complex procedures are probably out, but simple emergency care is always a smart thing to learn.
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

In the same way that water is "pretty important" to human life.
