$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ludi', 'T')hen you didn't mean it when you posted this?:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('lonewolf', 'T')he most brutal, ruthless, violent, unconscionable and best equipped have more than a fighting chance of coming out on top of the debris pile.

No, I meant it. I didn't say 'on top of the world' or even 'top of the heap' but top of the (smoldering) debris pile. When the debris pile has been fully picked over, they too will succumb to energy death. I see no way that humanity survives this century given our selfish, delusional, greed-based 'nature', proclivity for fear and violence, and 'developed' (inappropriate) skill-sets'. Sure, that could be wishful 'thinking' on my part but I do feel I'm being as objective as possible. Anti-doomers piling on are not going to change my mind or at all effect the outcome one way or the other.

The "intelligent humans" that continue this experiment with civilization after a population reduction will have received their "smarts" not as much from the preparation and homework they did before the crisis and population reduction began but rather how they adapted to the consequences once the crisis and correction was well under way.

You seem to equate our culture with "humanity."

What "anti-doomers" are "piling on" you?

I do equate 'our' (your?) culture with the deliberate destruction of the entire Earth, including the prospects/future of all other humans. So effectively, yes. 'our' culture' is equated with the demise of humanity - in my cranial cavity.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ludi', 'W')hat "anti-doomers" are "piling on" you?

WRT anti-doomer piles, I did not state or even imply that they had or were in this thread - so far That was a preemptive blurt from me. If/when they do, it wouldn't matter - to me or to anyone else IMO.

OTOH, you do seem to take extreme exception if not personal offense and/or some perverse pleasure in nit-picking my words to effect some personal unspoken agenda. If I have I unsettled your prejudices, then I say, "Good on me".

Good on you for being paranoid about someone trying to have a conversation with you? You just want to post whatever and nobody respond to it?

Okey dokey!

Good on you! [smilie=icon_salut.gif]

Conversation?? discussion? Are you effing joking? You've offered exactly nothing to this 'discussion' other than suggest I have my head (with thesaurus) up my ass
Apparently. I've struck a raw nerve somewhere between your ears. Silly me. Where is the alleged "ignore" button/option?

"Take someone's long-term access to oil away (via whatever mechanism) and , well ... they die. Period"

Really? Based on your opinion?

Oil has been used throughout history in small and spotty patches - but the real commercialization of it didn't occur until 1854. Somehow we managed to survive for millenia without it. Imagine that.

This site is hilarious. All this talk about how we don't have a clue how to survive w/o energy. When survival instinct kicks in, you'd be surprised what you can do. I have never made mead ale before - but guess what? It wasn't that hard. I can make all sorts of amazing meals/baked goods with simple, basic ingredients. Did you know you can GRASS and algae if you really needed to? (Grass gives you really bad tummy aches but it'll keep you going in a pinch). We can figure things out if/when we have to figure them out. We just don't have to right now - so we are lazy bums. Doesn't mean we will always be lazy bums.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have enough calories to keep you going in a pinch. It has some nutrients, but few calories unless you're a ruminant.

Just nit-picking. :)

Grass will not 'keep you going'. Humans cannot break down cellulose. At best you'll get some trace sugars, vitamins and minerals if your body doesn't purge it. You won't die any slower but you'll feel full for a while.

FairMaiden, a decreasing gene pool will be a better gene pool what with all the grass eating people dieing off. I don't mean to be rude. :|

Well, if this happens, at least you will have something to read.

Anyway, I don't see anything wrong with having a pure doomer viewpoint. As long as you are able to absorb and use facts that may seem to run counter to your beliefs, it may be a proper attitude. You know the old saying-"I know I'm paranoid, but am I paranoid enough?"

Does a "pure doomer viewpoint" require belief in MZBs? [smilie=5zombie.gif]

No, I'd not heard that particular one before. Had heard 'I may be crazy but not crazed enough' and 'I may be dangerous but not dangerous enough'.

I also ascribe to Oscar Wilde's admonition, "The sole basis of optimism is sheer terror." as well as Nietzsche's, "Faith means not wanting to know what is true."

Naa, it doesn't require belief, but it does require keeping your chainsaw in good condition, just in case.

One afternoon a lawyer was riding in his limousine when he saw two men along the roadside eating grass.
Disturbed, he ordered his driver to stop and he got out to investigate.
He asked one man, "Why are you eating grass?"
"We don't have any money for food," the poor man replied.
"We have to eat grass."
"Well, then, you can come with me to my house and I'll feed you," the lawyer said.
"But sir, I have a wife and two children with me. They are over there, under that tree."
"Bring them along," the lawyer replied.
Turning to the other poor man he stated, "You come with us, also."
The second man, in a pitiful voice, then said, "But sir, I also have a wife and SIX children with me!"
"Bring them all, as well," the lawyer answered.
They all entered the car, which was no easy task, even for a car as large as the limousine was.
Once underway, one of the poor fellows turned to the lawyer and said, "Sir, you are too kind.
Thank you for taking all of us with you."
The lawyer replied, "Glad to do it.
You'll really love my place.
The grass is almost a foot high."
