$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('TheDude', 'D')o you mean alternative currencies like LETS etc.? Or something more communal in nature? Like 10 mile bike commutes society at large isn't going to get on board that lifeboat until they can see the ship sinking; for the time being the average citizen with tens of thousands of their currency is going to want to park it in a traditional bank, and the minor ones have little to do with the macro scale odious shenanigans taking place in the FIRE sector.
Like i said, show me the investment portfolio of any "minor" bank, and i will show a paper trail of blood and destruction.
As far as an alternative, it's not about forcing the replacement of one system of currency or trade with another system, rather it is about a wholesale transformation in the way humans relate to each other and the natural world around them. It is about humans beginning to act a responsible stewards of the planet rather than heartless rapacious consumers of the earth's resources and non-human species. It's about expanding one's consciousness to encompass the whole of existance on this planet, rather than narrowly focusing on enlarging one's piece of the pie. In other words, acting as a unified global consciousness rather than a fragmented warring consciousness.
And the question is not whether or not society at large is capable of such a transformation...rather...what are you as an individual capable of? Any kind of societal transformation must begin at the individual level.
The "ship sinking" will not cause any positive change in consciousness...any fear-inducing scenarios will only cause humans to sink farther into the blackhole of me-first thinking and action.
