From the blog:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I') have spoken elsewhere about the label “Doomer,” and I’ve come to believe that this frame is outdated. Instead, I would like to suggest that we must stop asking ourselves, given the lateness of the hour, why there are those pessimistic about the future, and begin asking, instead, why there are those still blindly and enthusiastically optimistic about it.

Is it late? It's only 5:15pm here now. I have this misplaced feeling like I should already have three drinks under my belt for some reason.

Oh believe me, I could go on forever about doomer psychological disorders.

How about hatred of civilization? Obviously a lot of doomers here hate modern civilization and would love nothing more than to see it all collapse in spectacular fashion.

Now, in turn, what could be the reason for such hated of civilization? Maybe these doomers feel uncomfortable around lots of people - no? Little wonder so many of them have decided to hide out in their doomsteads in the middle of nowhere - they really don't like people. In other words, it's obvious to me the main thrust behind much (though not all) doomerism is an anti-social streak. Maybe they were bullied in school when they were a kid, or something.

Then there are the conspiracy theory types, which are all-too-abundant in this movement. I won't go into detail, but perhaps it is borderline schizophrenia, or a more mundane explanation could be an inability to deal with a complex world.

I laugh at anyone who thinks cornucopians have psychological problems. The woman in JJ's article desperately needs to see a shrink.
Stuff for doomers to contemplate:

I don't know about anyone else but I personally wouldn't mind a Star Trek: The Next Generation future with its seemingly endless energy and replicators that make almost anything you need on demand.

I just don't see the future playing out like that.
An ideology is by definition not a search for TRUTH-but a search for PROOF that its point of view is right

Equals barter and negotiate-people with power just take

You cant defend freedom by eliminating it-unknown

Our elected reps should wear sponsor patches on their suits so we know who they represent-like Nascar-Roy

Doomers are not a separate species from Cornies or any of these other subgroups. We come from the same cultural foundation.

The attempts that each side makes to cast themselves as the defender of the truth and the other side as hopelessly clueless ignores the common roots from which our beliefs originate.

I don't know anyone here or in 'real' that is looking forward to the suffering side of collapse. Watching our family members lives being terminated is not an aspect of collapse which can be denied or enjoyed. I think those who do say 'bring it on' are gritting their teeth and readying themselves psychologicly for suffering. Many are also feeling personal guilt over what our species has done to the planet. The fact that society is not in the process of redeeming itself to natural life in a coherent balance with nature, leaves many sensitive souls feeling bereft of hope. To label these as people haters is goind a tad too far.
