Barney Frank Bullys Fannie Into Lowering Lending Standards
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')n a letter to the CEO's of both companies, Representatives Barney Frank, the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, and Anthony Weiner warned that a 70 percent sales threshold "may be too onerous" and could lead condo buyers to shun new developments, according to the paper.

The legislators asked the companies to "make appropriate adjustments" to their underwriting standards for condos, the paper added.

Look everyone knows this is not true. Obama has said for almost a year that everything is Bush Jr.s fault. Now you want us to believe that the Democrats should bare some responsibilty as well. Come on now.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')b]It authorizes Federal Reserve banks to provide as much as $4 trillion in emergency funding the next time Wall Street crashes.

You know, before long we're gonna start gettin into real money here. ;)

This is a super sweet deal for banks. They're basically getting free money to go out and speculate with. There's no downside, just gravy. Heck, all the mortgages could go bust, even if they sell for pennies on the dollar they'll still make money. But loaning sheeple money is yesterdays news anyway, the real money will be in all the new financial derivative products they'll come up with. Fantastic business, really.. how can you ever lose when you print your own money?

Oh, it really is good to be a banker.. just imagine the bubbles they can blow now with unlimited trillions at their disposal. Some folks are gonna get rich, baby, rich! 8)

I work for a small 103 year old community bank. Our board is very conservative in thier practices. We were'nt doing any of the crazy ARM or NINJA loans. We've made money every year even when the bottom fell out in 2007 we made money that year. All without a dime in federal tax dollars.

Yep, we probably should be opting out of this system, instead of continuing to support it.

Problem is, people are used to the (relative) comfort and ease of living in this system. :(

Been advocating it pretty much the whole time I've been posting here.

But the "beast" I advocate starving is probably much larger than the one you're thinking of. :)

I've been banking with University Federal Credit Union in Austin for 14 years. You have to be associated with UT somehow to join them, but they are a righteous organization. I've never had one complaint about their service or standards. They never made bad/risky loans in the past decade to put themselves in jeopardy.

I cannot recommend this local credit union enough. Karl Denninger wrote a Ticker about this today: http://market-ticker.org/archives/1802- ... MONEY.html$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')ired of the fraud by "big banking interests"?
Tired of bailouts?
Tired of 29.9% credit card interest rates?
Tired of our government screwing you while favoring (and handing billions of your money to) big banking interests?
THEN DO SOMETHING LAWFUL AND EFFECTIVE ABOUT IT.

I started talking about this quite some time ago. Specifically, in October I said: Go withdraw all your money and business from the following institutions:
Bank of America
Wells Fargo/Wachovia
Citibank
JP Morgan/Chase

Those four.
Place your business with a local community bank or credit union in their place, and tell the above four institutions to "piss off." I've resisted doing this, but the idea that banks are now going to try to penalize those who do not carry balances or pay late fees is the last straw. This is a call for a boycott.

I agree with your sentiments, BUT.. they simply do not care, Jotapay. They're not dependent on the sheeple's deposits anymore. They'll always have their elite customers and corporate clientele, but most importantly they have a license to print money with this guaranteed 4 trillion dollar safety net.

I'll say it again, they ain't interested in having your business.. the big banks all want to be investment banks now.

They don't need deposits any more. They have the fed. Hells bells, the fed doesn't need taxes anymore. They have the press. Free money for everybody.

would you be willing to reveal some of the names of the environmentally destructive companies listed in your investment portfolio (that would include US Inc military complex treasury notes). you may be conservative in your investment practices, but there is no such thing as a "good" bank. your bank may not be as destructive as some banks, but it is still extremely destructive. almost all wealth creation in this world involves placing violence and greed over ethics.

Oh come on, using the internet itself is environmentally destructive, where do you draw the line? Dinky regional banks are a magnitude less odious to the planet than these multi pronged international scope monstrosities, who really need to be taken down a score of notches. Alternative is to stuff mattresses and shoeboxes, is that what you're advocating?

And anyway, the $4 trillion can't be authorized unless “there is at least a 99 percent likelihood that all funds and interest will be paid back.” Pheww! See, they're looking out for us.

Alternative is to engage in the Sharing or Gift Economy, and avoid money as much as possible.
