I stumbled upon an ingenius solution while trawling another site!

All we need to do is genetically engineer horses to be heaps more powerful!

Actually, I think a 12 cylinder Internal GM Rodent engine (12 giant psychotic GM rats in treadmills) would be the refined persons choice. Complete with exhaust pipe to truck away those rodenty smells, and a little turbo impella to make sure those ratties get enough oxygen...

Maybe we could provide additional overboost facility by cutting "bi-pedal assistance apertures" ala Flintstones style!!

I see a point in your post. We will not return to how thing where 100 yeras ago wihtout oil. we acrry the baggage of technology created in the last 100 years such that human life will be improved with regards to 100 years ago.

Genetics offers a lot of potential in that respect. But I must say I am a little nervous about going to far with it.
