It sounds great until you start really looking hard at the consequences of this.

Mos? The consequences of what? Humans surviving? Being prepared somewhat and breeding? The aricle has nothing to do with breeding, it's about rural social preparation for disaster. I don't get what you are on about here.

I thought the article was a good one, and it did mention the concept of zombies being the ones who come from a mile away, not your immediate neighborhood.

I thought it was good too though in this case a mile away IS the immediate neighborhood.

I always get a kick out of the line, I'm from the government and here to help. Pretty well always trotted out by those rugged survivalists who'd rather stock up on Whiz-Bang 3000 supplies than a few jugs of water and then whine about government response when the water turns brown/. After our big ice storm a few years ago I was happy to see the kids from the Guard come around asking if we needed anything. We wound up pulling them out of a ditch they slid into but at least they were here and amazingly they didn't even force us to go to an internment camp.

The government, at least here in MO seems to have learned some lessons about teaching people to have at least a little responsibility for themselves because I see a a surprising amount of public service announcements about preparedness lately.

Hi Pops, the fluplan link aint workin. It does look like Missouri is one of the more prepared states in the world; thanks for the links! Paradoxicly though it's more up front than most government things I have seen but at the same time is not long term focused at all. The assumption here is that eventually the broader network will get going again; like in a few days.
Will Missouri cope better with a long term disaster than other states?
Maybe.
At leat the networking is underway at a high level; unlike the ad-hoc emergency measures most Governments are relying on.

To be honest, the weather in MO is often severe; ice, t-storms, floods, tornadoes, etc so people seem to be more accepting of the idea preparedness is a worthwhile endeavor. Those events affect the larger cities as well as the countryside so overall I'd think we (I guess I can say we after 5 years) are at least a little more resilient than average.

I'm not sure why the government agencies would be more proactive. Our area at least was rural long after other's had paved, electrified, wired up phone lines and piped water inside - our house didn't have indoor facilities until 1975 and I'll guess it was the '60s before any electrical was installed.

So yea, it is a far cry from Central CA.
