Is Imagination/ Creativity THE Key to Survival?

Postby SeaGypsy » Sun 27 Sep 2009, 00:43:06

Methinks it is.

Regardless of circumstances; the more novel the situation the more novel the required approach.

One possible way to view the economic situation is that it is a novelty designed to inspire us; many have written on this subject.

In plain language: if things aint working the way they used to it's a good idea to try something different. Nothing ventured, nothing gained; gamble everything and you might just find yourself.

Information.. is what is truly required to make an innovative or creative solution.

Having knowledge on a broad range of topics allows one to draw creatively from one's knowledge base and innovate new combinations of that accretion of technique into a novel solution.

Once that font of endless information, the internet, is gone... our ability to create broad knowledge based solutions will be limited to what we have learned and what we have physically recorded.

Getting as much information, through experience and reference works now... is the only way to ensure that you will be well prepared for the complex and unique decisions that will have to be made.

That being said... innovation and creativity are the vehicles for survival.. they are and always have been... i dont believe anyone can disagree with that.

You... "seagypsy" already have a well regarded volume of personal experience on many topics regarding survival and cultural interaction.

That being said, the only way for you to improve your ability to "innovate" is by chosing creatively what topics you will further expand your information base with. Knowledge is not power... knowledge is Ability.... and ability is what everyone will need more of.

I think adaptability might be a better word. But, yes, those who are braindead will not be members of the gene pool for long.

survival is a myth - no one manages it for long. so why the odd obsession with living as long as possible?

however, this question might well remind the erudite among us, of Rambo: First Blood Part II, which was on Spike tv last night.

rambo is about to undertake a dangerous mission, alone, in enemy territory, in the dense jungles of southeast asia. a commanding officer offers rambo his pick of 'the best weapons in the world' -- to which rambo tersely replies, 'the mind is the best weapon'.

fittingly, his sack of cutting-edge equipment gets lost in the paradrop, and rambo must make do with nary but a sharp blade and even sharper wits.

Blame evolution. You want to have a cavalier attitude towards die-off, be my guest. It ain't an "odd obsession" in my book.
