$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('hillsidedigger', 'T')he internet has become a 'mutual emotional reinforcement' party for the absurd, twisted and macabre.

Way back when compuserve was new I remember thinking the web was going to be kind of a mass specialization tool where some guy in Oregon who would like to make cedar clogs for a living but couldn't support himself selling locally could find a world wide market.
That was the actual example in my brain for whatever reason and sure enough I get 258 hits searching for "cedar clogs" today - I don't know if any of them are some guy in oregon tho...
At any rate, I sure didn't think it would be the big amplifing echo chamber that it's become - say just about anything to Google and it will shout back to you your thought taken to the Nth degree!

Ha Ha! This is too funny! Digger was talking about Homesteading Today and in that search for "cedar clogs" I ran across
this thread by me there in '04 just before po.com came online talking about peak oil, relocating, the internet and clogs!
I guess I need an original idea!
The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities.
-- Abraham Lincoln, Fragment on Government (July 1, 1854)
