$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pablonite', '
')As for nukes, it is just hard to trust any entity with running a nuclear plant when we see the waste product being fired out of the barrel of a gun.

And as for trees, it is just as hard to trust any entity with running a forest when we see the waste prodcut being fired out the business end of a crossbow

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('eastbay', 'Y')es, Plantagenet, 'night' and 'weather' will definitely interfere with solar and wind power designs.....

And let's not forget that 'out of cheap uranium' might interfere with nuclear power designs as well.

The ocean has lots of uranium

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ian807', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('AAA', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ian807', '
')You just lost any credibility you might have had with me. You obviously know nothing about the oil industry.

Wow. Interesting cognitive leap there. Care to explain?

I'm pretty sure that oil companies will buy other power generating by equipment, and that they have the capital reserves to do so. I would, if I were them. They're not married to oil. They're married to money.

Your statement was a very generic "Big Oil" is taking over the world because they are blood thirsty for money.

That is the same as saying:

JPMorgan should start crab fishing in Alaska. They're not married to the financial markets. They're married to money.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ian807', '
')Oh, FYI, I work in the oil industry. Upstream. And you?

What do you do?

I'm a Petroleum Landman. I grew up in an oil town in the Permian. My father and brother both work for E&P companies in the Permian. Two of my Uncles spent over 40 years in oil both domestic and international. My wife's father is an on-site accountant for on the largest refinery builders in the world. So I have a little background in oil. Do I know everything about the oil business? NO, but I do know a little.

We are the minority here. Most po members have never even smelled fresh crude or felt its warmth from the wellhead.
How can Ludi spend 8-10 hrs/day on the internet and claim to be homesteading???

Time for a update on this:

http://nextbigfuture.com/2009/09/uraniu ... scale.html

Uranium from Seawater on a large Scale Update

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')Dr Masao Tamada, of the Japan Atomic Energy Agency, has developed a fabric made primarily of irradiated polyethylene that is able to soak up the minute amounts of uranium – around 3.3 parts per billion – in the seawater.

Dr Tamada hopes to secure funding to construct an underwater uranium farm covering nearly 400 square miles that would meet one-sixth of Japan's annual uranium requirements.

"Other countries are conducting similar research but none are as advanced as we are," he said. "We need to conduct more development research and be able to produce the adsorbent material on a large scale, but we could achieve this within five years."
