Feeling sleepy? Ambien anybody?

Postby Pretorian » Sun 23 Aug 2009, 12:02:16

So this guy takes 10 pills for whatever unprescribed reason, last thing he remembers is a sort of an out-of-body experience and he has no idea of why did he sliced himself up everywhere , including both sides of the neck, both wrists, let his guts out. He'll be ok with a few surgeries I think, but -wow! If there any sleep drug more benign than a glass of vodka?

Ambien has been known to cause all kinds of weird phenomena.

There are even cases where people attempt to drive while still asleep. They end up crashed on the side of the road sleeping peacefully until a cop comes by and wakes them up to ask them what happened. They usually have no idea, to them it was all a dream.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'I') googled "ambien gut evisceration" and all I came up with was:

Try "ambien side effects stories" (no quotes). I found this article from the Washington Post:

To Sleep, Perchance to . . . Walk
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he most prescribed sleep medication in the United States may be linked to episodes of sleepwalking and related strange and dangerous behaviors, experts say -- including incidents of nocturnal eating, phone conversations, shoplifting and even driving -- of which the subject has no memory.

Sleep specialists and researchers cite a growing though still inconclusive body of reports associating Sanofi-Aventis's drug Ambien with the incidents. More than 24 million prescriptions for Ambien were written in 2004.

Timothy Morgenthaler, a researcher at the Mayo Clinic Sleep Disorders Center in Rochester, Minn., says he has seen many cases of people who sleepwalk and sleep-eat after taking Ambien.

Nothing about 'self-evisceration', but still...

I had sex with the wife once after 2 ambiens, and had no memory of it. She said I was good though.

Most of the time she says I just moan alot if I take more than 1.

I have also had some late night calls and not remembered the conversations.

I've been taking Ambien on occasion after my recent surgery to help with sleep.

No noticeable side-effects thus far.
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

They talk that may be he wanted to kill himself as he was stressed out about his job insecurity , can you possibly kill yourself with 10 pills? Why 10 and not 20 or 30 then?

I had this with phenobarbital - well not the slicing but it was as if the memory tape stopped recording. I took quiet a bit at 2pm and fell asleep promptly. Next thing I remember is throwing up at around midnight. However was told that I was up and about 3 times between 7.30pm and midnight which I have absolutely no recollection of though from evidence (moved 2 bags of charcoal up into the attic via very small ladder) was very dexterous and could communicate properly. Also went outside at one point but did not drive car.

Cannabis my friend. :)

Try some lorazepam instead of ambien.

Still 'grass' is best.

Also, you could try some ZMA & DHEA before bedtime..........

I think my sister has taken this stuff for some time. After having kids she never would get any sleep...

I sleep like a log. Never have had sleeping issues. I love it. One of my favorite things that i'm good at. I just hate sleeping with my wife and her stealing all the bed space and my noisy, kicking, snoring, heavy breathing toddler.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('vision-master', 'C')annabis my friend. :)

Actually I find that it's about 50/50. Some nights it helps me sleep, others it seems to stimulate mental activity and keep me awake. Hmmm now that I think about it... it might depend on what heat setting I have on the vaporizer. The two main alkaloids have different melt-points as well as differing effects.

Melatonin is another option. Natural levels tend to fall as we age, and it plays a significant role in sleep. Its production is also suppressed by light, so the darker one's sleep environment the better...

I took some ambien and when I woke up the next day my kitchen was littered with opened and emptied butter packets for pour-over butter popcorn. I had no memory of that.

I flushed the remaining pills down the toilet. When I go to sleep I want to STAY asleep and not go into zombie mode.

So will the Post Peak Zombies of the future actually just be Ambien-deprived baby boomers?

My comments on melatonin: the stuff helped me fall to sleep but not stay asleep. I was using the 5 mg doses for a while before I stopped. I will admit however that while I was on it, I had some of the most lucid dreams ever! It was like watching porn on the best HD setup you can find... It was actually pretty schocking, even for me! YMMV.
