So who knows? Why is an established news web site down, many innocent answers come to mind, why are there no cached pages of cars.gov prior to aug1 I can fnind, again innocent co-incidence possibly.
My question is more compelling with each reply, Can they have been so stupid as to try the ultimate phishing trip on car dealers computers, ( and salesmen etc,) or were they punked by someone at the GB show.
Or was the next step in government technowars just practice run, an attempt to plant or extract either way? The server at cars.gov has been crashed off and on since it was opened, band width restriction learning curve on data extraction, or over exuberant buyers?
The question are not answered, they just keep making my tin foil hat look more and more useful!

Lets' take a minute here and forget about CARS.gov and the video.
I'm sitting here and looking at the snap shot of infowars and reading the second paragraph. And I've come to this conclusion. The government wants to have access to the dealers computer for several reasons.
1. When you trade in your clunker and given a voucher (same as cash) towards the purchase of a new vehicle the IRS can see the amount and come back and charge Sales Tax on that voucher.
2. When you purchase a new vehicle you have to apply for credit (unless you can pay cash and still give a lot of personal info to close the deal). That credit app. has a ton of personal info on it about you. Name, address, SS#, phone #, employers name, your salary, your references, etc,etc.
3. The dealer has all that info in their computer and it's readily available for the IRS, Child Welfare, FBI, CIA, DEA, ATF, ICE and or any other law enforcement agency. As well by any other authorized official or agency.
The government is going to get this information without your knowledge or consent.
Now armed with all your personal info what could the government do with it? This is a question that could generate a ton of answers to.
Now we are into non innocent answers, If you want to start that discussion, what about practicing putting in a sleeper worm that will be transfered to every other computer that computer ever visits that would allow the government the necessary number of robot responders when they decide to unleash a cyber attack to flood the internet with the attack from myriad sources none of which cost the government anything and meanwhile the gov and banks can sit safely behind their www2 or www3 connections and command and control that attack at will. ( hmm they claimed a north Korean student just did something like that just last month and actually crashed the non sensitive .gov site on the web... HMMM could be...
or again it could be a grant writing experienced post graduate student who was allowed as an intern to write the TOS for that wildly successful new age program his/her/its' heroes had just commenced to help rid the earth of those nasty soccer moms gas guzzling pollution belching machines who was just making it clear that you enter this site your $ss belongs to us because we are IMPORTANT while you are a subservient middle class lackey petitioning favor from those of us who are now in charge of restoring the sacred balance of the earth for future generations of people who will not be enslaved and polluted by you capitalist oppressors... who knows for sure.. none of us I bet will ever know.
Well well we've come full circle and are back to the question in the title of the discussion "Can they be that stupid? Or that smart? Can you add 2 and 2"
