I think it's sad folly to jump around in mad preparation for the time when the world you know and love falls apart. This attitude seems to me so much of what this whole doomsday stuff is about.
I live my life close to the earth and frugal because I enjoy it. It's an enriching way to live. I have believed for more than thirty years that the American led, but global, path of ever increasing consumption and destruction is not only wrong but bound to fail sooner or later. I don't really care how much sooner or later. I care about building things, growing things, making things, and kicking back in deep woods.
If the possibility of economic and cultural doomsday ruining your business as usual life is the only reason you are doing all your "prep" stuff then you are probably not going to be very successful at it.
