Rep Conyers: What's The Point Of Reading The Bill?

Unread postby mattduke » Mon 27 Jul 2009, 13:20:29

I have a bill that I would like Congress to pass without reading it.

“What good is reading the bill if it’s a thousand pages and you don’t have two days and two lawyers to find out what it means after you read the bill?”

lol

He's been a Congressman for 44 years ... and it's clear that he has now fully evolved to become the prototypical politician.

He votes for a law he has not read and then has the audacity to try and force me to obey it. What an idiot. I'm with Gretta if they don't read them then we don't need them.

anarchy? civil disobedience? nah, U$Americans have grown complacent... as a poster months (years?) ago said: current citizens are lazy, complacent (and fat I guess) cats.

If "What's the point of reading a bill." is true - then -

so is

"What's the point of having a representative."

Conyers is now being featured on Drudge.

If the preening peacocks in congress don’t read this stuff, then they clearly don’t write it. So where does it come from? In as much as the laws are not written by our representatives, who writes them?

Apparently this is standard operating procedure for this august body. How can we consider anything they have produced as legitimate much less law? It is no wonder that illegal’s can sign up for social security, welfare and Pell Grants. This is why our civil liberties are being stripped away. This is why Wall Street and the banking class have been allowed to rape and pillage Middle America. This is why we all are poorer.

We need to break the backs of both parties. We need to vote all of these rascals out. We need to replace them with people who can actually read.

The bills in Congress are written by Pelosi and her staff and the staff of the House democratic leadership, and often are given to the Congress at the very last minute so no one has time to read them.

For instance, the recent "cap and trade" bill pushed through the House saw Pelosi's staff add another 300 pages at 3 in the morning on the day of the vote---the republicans asked for a delay in the vote so they could actually read the bill before voting on it, but the democrats used their complete control of the House to pass it through on a party-line vote without reading it.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'R')e: George W Bush: What is the point of Reading At All?

Even my "My Pet Goat?" As I recollect he was just mouthing the pictures. As the World Trade Centers collapsed.

Folks. Not to intrude on any of your short-sighted myopic little world-views but Georgy was President 6 months ago. This will remain Georgie's problem until he is cold and emtombed in the floor of some vanity quote (fingers making quote signs) (cough cough) library (cough cough) closed quote.

What would Georgie's vanity library actually contain. Picture books?

Try to stay with current events. We aren't talking about this economy or anything Bush had a hand in. This is the current administration saying they won't read a bill and just vote on the general jist of it. And expect us to obey.... Dems... Repbs.... SSDD.
If the American people ever allow the banks to control issuance of their currency, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children will wake up homeless on the continent their fathers occupied. "because it's your JOB, ASSHOLE."

if i ever asked a similar question about reading some MIL-SPEC as part of a project, i would have expected some serious flak.

Mr. Conyers, your job is to read the whole thing and if you can't, then you try to read the whole thing.

and to think we're paying for his gold-plated health care and his gold-plated retirement.

True enough - I can remember one very important piece rammed through right after that - PATRIOT act.....

Don't see OB's getting rid of that though either...

But apparently fascism is good for repubs when they are in control... And the dems are all for it when they are....

I understand that the left got off in insinuating that Bush was too thick to read and understand what he was signing. Now the left is simply revealing that it is too arrogant to read the laws they write and pass.

Which is worse? Either way we wind up in the same place.
