"To become independent on oil, we have to use less in the end, they admitted. They also said get more oil from Canada and Mexico will help" Too bad Mexico is depleting.

"No alternative is as cheap as gasoline. Also, "will our addiction do us in?" was the final statement and a question. Kind of dark way to end the show. The picture accompying the speech was a burning barrell of oil.

Never really touched peak oil or running out. T Boone Pickens and that Chu guy were pretty honest it seemed... It seemed like these guys all wanted to say more, but were withholding... They kind of made it obvious that there is no real good substitute for oil/gasoline....

I give it about a 3 out of 10...

They laid out a very simple logic that the dope smoking, community college dropout, beauty queen from Alaska is an idiot,

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Kristen', 'T')he show said he we create 5 million barrells a day, and consume 13 Million.

I probably would have turned it off when I heard that nonsense. I mean the 13 million bbls/d nonsense.

I think he said we import 13m a day... I think we use around 20m a day...

The "special" sucked... It didn't hit on anything of substance. Like what the hell were going to do when world production slips back to about 6o mb/day...with a growing population...

From the opening post of this thread:

"Americans consume a quarter of the world's oil, yet make up only 3% percent of the global population"

During the show they said:

"Americans consume a quarter of the world's oil, yet make up only 4% (it's 4.5%) percent of the global population and have only 3% of the world's oil reserves."

My math actually places American oil reserves quite a bit higher than 3% of the world's total.

I thought that was fishy, also they did say we only consume 13 mpd. Studies are always deceptive. Ever read the economist?

If these guys would have checked with a few of us first they wouldn't have made these silly errors.

Plus they would have offered viewers a more realistic conclusion. 8O

Wow. My response to this program was unexpected: as soon as the end came, I sat-up in bed and booed at the TV. Very disappointing. No mention of Peak, very little mention of growing demand. And while I'm at it, it was boring.

Boo.

Was it made in 1968?

They meant imports. If they seriously obfuscated that they're even bigger...what did Cashmere call them? Something involving donkeys?

Whenever I hear cornucopia or green shoots I give a sarcastic cheer.

"We are moving very quickly to try to put in place comprehensive reforms of risk-taking in the financial sector to try to make sure we put in place not just strong protection for consumers ... but also to make sure that we have a more stable more resilient financial system less prone to crisis."

Any "documentary" on oil that takes into account what fecking Wall Street says is immediately suspect.
