Probably safer than getting it done at the VA.

Mine was $5,000. That's one of the reasons the US health system has fallen into disrepair. It was totally routine. About an hour, so I was told. And $5,000.

Oh I know why. There was a crowd gathered. A doctor, an anesthesiologist, a tech or some sort, and a few others watching probably just for kicks. Plus insurance, dope, lights, and the rental of the space in the hospital. But $5,000? For an hour? That's crazy.

Ok, it's all over. Hope you are well, and everything is ok down there, inside.

My mom's dad died of colon cancer, I guess I had better get checked sometime soon...? Yeeeshh. Not fun.

True.
It is crazy.

2 months ago I had gastroscopy in Poland, just as a check base on my demand.
Nothing interesting (except of H. Pylori) was found.
Test was made privately because our socialized medicine have unduly long waiting lists.
It takes about 5 - 7 minutes to complete and cost is $20.
I love our private healthcare.
There are no waiting lists and it is very affordable.

About 10 years ago when I was in the UK, I had a problem with wisdom tooth.
UK NHS waiting list for this kind of simple procedure (which dentists were refusing to perform due to possible complications) was 18 months.
Alternative private hospital treatment ( really tooth extraction in hospital environment) was GBP 1800.

I have decided to save these money and during my visit in Poland I went to first off the mill dentist and asked for that wisdom tooth to be removed.
Waiting list taken about 30 minutes to clear, so I even didn't finish reading a newspaper, further meddling under local anesthetic was about 20 minutes long (including waiting time for anesthetic to work) and overall charge was GBP 8, paid in local currency.

So why private healthcare in the US is so expensive?

NB. I know a person with thyroid problem, who is on Thyroxine.
During his 1 year long stay in the US he had to pay something like $2000 + for the treatment.

In Poland these money will buy you life long supply.

Once every five years if you have a history in the family is the directive. I've had two...they gave me some wierd hypnotic drug which results in the last thing you remember is laying on a gurney with an IV and them asking you to count backward form 100...the next thing you remember is you are being wheeled out to meet your worried spouse.

God knows what the bastards did while I was out! I don't want to even imagine.
