Interesting concept, but where are the insurance salesmen, advertising executives, personal trainers and dog rolfers?

Another good show is PBS 1680's House (or something like that), a reality show where they put people in a colonial America. Not much drama, but pretty cool to see modern folks try to live as the colonials did.

Yeah, a few years ago they did one called Frontier House. It was brutal. Several families went to go and live under similar conditions as a settler in Montana, except with video cameras all over the place and film crews that had food. These families were meant to prepare for winter, starting about March 1. The person that judged them reckoned that none of the families would have survived. Out of this there was at least one divorce and a whole slew of mal-adjusted children. I suppose those kids handled it by reminding themselves that this experience would end one day, even if kids that age think of a few months like it was years. When the hammer comes down, when you lose your house, or your job (especially if you are older) it has to be worrying you that the good times may not ever come back.
When it comes down to it, the people will always shout, "Free Barabbas." They love Barabbas. He's one of them. He has the same dreams. He does what they wish they could do. That other guy is more removed, more inscrutable. He makes them think. "Crucify him."

They did a program in the 70s in Britain where a group of people went and lived for a year in an Iron age village. It was a very popular show and in 2002, I think it was, they did a remake.

On the first night of the remake they undercooked the chicken they were given because it was dark and several had to be hospitalized for food poisoning.

Yeah, I seem to remember seeing that remake. I think a kid had to go to the hospital.

How do you undercook chicken, by the way? You cut it up and either boil it or roast it on a fire.. or am I wrong, and cooking meat the survivalist way is harder than I think it is?

(also, putting modern people in an iron age situation is a bit unfair. I don't think our immune system can compare to folks who grew up eating poorly cooked food. Similar to Westerners getting sick from tap water in Mexico.. they're just not acclimated)

Why would they grow up eating undercooked food? Iron age folks knew how to cook just fine. Sound like the participants in the show were just clueless. They probably eat take out and prepared frozen dinners most of the time.
