CBS video: The new oil rush of wells in IL, OH

CBS Video

This was on the CBS nightly news tonight. Basically was about people who are tapping into the oil that sits under IL, OH, etc. Some of them were making some damn good money. Wish i was on top of an oil/gas field :( We'll probably be seeing more of this as crude continues to rise. Probably have to put armed guards around this places sometime down the road.

If someone gets lucky with the 1 out of many wells they can make decent money, not that a bunch of 10-100 b/d wells will do much for the supply. :lol: Theses ppl are simply attempting to get lucky by finding oil thats is in too small quantity for any oil company to chase. I think the comment in that piece about 300 mil. bbl of oil there is hyperbolae. If its there its referring to OIP spread over hundreds thousands of small fields. Ther Majors wont be setting up shop in Ohio and Indiana I don't think.

Yeah...the comment about 9/10 coming up empty leaves a lot of room for failure. Also the cost, around 150K, might be a little steep for most. A lucky few with the means might come out ahead.

Hell, even 10 barrels a day would be $500 a day..that's well over $175,000 a year!

I'll take that :P

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'H')ell, even 10 barrels a day would be $500 a day..that's well over $175,000 a year!

Actually it will be much less depending on actual contract price,
sunk cost for drilling, oil quality, middleman, and taxes.

You will be lucky if you can make 30% profit margin.

Cheers,
