Sorry, Zeke, if you're positing such a thing exists, it's up to you to prove it does. It's like if I posit you're a retard, without actually performing a medical exam on you. In other words, talk is cheap.

in that case, a substantial amount of this board, and indeed of human conversation ought to be invalidated.

what I said really doesn't take that much in the way of smarts to understand. it's not as though I said that bike riders are assaulted because they have, at home, a pair of pink socks.

what you all need to understand fully...into your bones...is that the presupposition for car-friendly america is that virtually ALL of the infrastructure out there is for and about cars and car usage. bike riding and even pedestrian traffic are at best tolerated by car drivers. Get in their way and the prevailing attitude is that you get what you deserve if you are hit.

I guess you're going to demand that I prove THAT as well, and my response would be that you aren't equipped to discuss this situation if you can't use your experience and observations gathered during your time on this planet to know what is being talked about.

If you are a regular bike user, then you ought to be intimately familiar with what I'm saying. If not, you need edumacated.

which really speaks to a much larger issue concerning the fine art of thinking. Notice here that the proof demanded is in the form of a web link. to a web site. on the internet.

As though the virtual community is itself the unimpeachable source against which the veracity of all statements must be measured.

nice.

zeke,

Stop talking and give us some examples where people were "attacked physically" because they were being conservative.

Haha so that is your basis. Motorist collide with cyclists and you assume it is intentional. Come back when you grow up a little and actually have something solid to say.

dude, don't be a freakin pin head!

I didn't say that all collisions = intentional.

what I said in reality, and you can scroll up to read for yourself, is that people who are trying to consume fewer resources are often villified, sometimes attacked physically.

it's really basic reading, and you're getting FAR too whipped up about an idea which obviously threatens your worldview.

Who's the pinhead. You misquoted yourself and still haven't given 1 example.

Here is your quote:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('zeke', ' ')The few who do are villified, and quite often attacked physically.

I added the bold because you specifically said "quite often" which means it happens on a somewhat regular basis. You cannot prove to me that it has happened once.

right. I said quite often. you mangled that into that I assume that all collisions are intentional.

I'm going to leave you to noodle over this on your own. You seem to be most concerned with playing perry mason and attempting to trip me up on my word usage rather than making even a feeble attempt to grasp what I've said.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ludi', 'P')retty much agree. It's what's called Jevon's Paradox.
And it's as pertinent today as it was when it was last seen in the early 1900s. Fortunately, I doubt we'll see it again for a long time, at least in a negative context.

If indeed Earth can support 2B people, humans blew the carrying capacity limit in the early 1900s, although there was already too much momentum behind it.

In all fairness, the specific analysis I'm thinking of specifically mentioned the Earth could support 2 billion at a 1970s American standard of living. Considering that America, and the world, don't even have a 1970s American standard of living anymore, the population figures should be adjusted according to whatever the limiting factors were.

Therefore I won't be able to point out your obvious false statements that you portray as truth.

Probably up. Even Americans don't consume as much energy and generate as much pollution as they did the the 70s. On the flip side, how far up depends on where the world's population/standard of living goes. At a bit less than an Italian standard for the entire world we could support ~10 billion, at least according to the standards of the old analysis, which may or may not be accurate.

About the main topic... Cuba is probably not consuming much energy.

I don't think collectively we are going to try to do what is necessary to save energy until it is too late.

Individually doing this doesn't hurt anything and helps yourself by saving money and being less dependent on a broken system.

Looking out for self, families and possibly neighbors is about the only option left now.
