EDIT: that was a South Park quote. It didn't occur to me at all that it does indeed appear incivil to people who aren't in on the (dumb) joke, or perhaps it just didn't occur to me that not everyone in the world watched the show.

In any case, I assumed something stupid, and I left this message here to apologize to anyone who might've been offended by the comment.

Was he buried in the pope hat? How about his papal garbs? Or do they recycle them for the next guy? I think it would be kind of morbid to wear a hat that a dead guy wore.

This thread has becomed very boring.
I'm not even Catholic, but I'm surprised how you are always so politically correct with Jews or Muslims and throw all this trash to Catholics without a blink.
This really make me think.

It is amazing, isn't it? It appears that Catholics and Germans are fair game.

Do you suppose the next pope after Benedict XVI will actually choose the name Peter II? Or is that a misunderstanding on my part?

I'm not drinking any prophecy, so I don't think the next Pope will adopt St.Peter name (unless a big catastrophe happens... like PO! <--------irony here)

About Rome, Rome citizens are a bit bored but they are used to big events. When Gorbatchev came, we were forced to go by walking for two days. They closed the center because of terror alarms.

GP II was buried with his clothes, as most human beings use to do. New Pope gets new clothes... or you think Pope clothes can last 2000 years? That would really be a miracle <----------(irony here)

About Hitler Youth, well, only Europeans can understand this. My father was in Mussolini Fascist Youth... all italian men over 70 were. It was mandatory. They were marching at school, exercising, training with some kid rifles and so on. In Berlin children were sent to guard, but not more. I don't think this can qualify someone as a dangerous nazis.

I don't like this Pope at all, but he was not a killer nazi for sure.

The prophecies, from what I've read, aren't always so clear. "Peter of Rome" could also be an Italian pope from Rome, who may have the real name Peter/Pietro/etc., or he could be someone who at one time led a church named after Peter, etc.

I think it would go a long way toward helping people feel better about him, especially Jewish people, if he would make an official statement about his past. I know his past isn't his fault, but he needs to take responsibility for it.

From what I understand there has been only one Peter, the first pope, and tradition is that no pope will ever take that name. Perhaps his Christian name will be Peter, or there will be some other connection. That is if the St. Malachy prophecies are worth anything. I believe the connection between Benedict XVI and the "Glory of Olives" is rather tenuous.

But not as Pope. It is as Pope that he needs to make a formal statement, in my opinion, now he is the earthly representative of the Church.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Gideon', 'D')oes the Catholic Church owe anybody money? Why is the Pope bad mouthing Islam? He says that Islam was spread at the point of a sword?

This is factually true. The Pope is just doing what his job requires him to do, promote Jesus.

Both Islam and Christianity were initially spread at the point of the sword. That's no news to anyone. Muslims may get offended if the Pope only referred to Islam's violence, and not to Christianity's. Also, this is quite a bad time to say these things about Islam. I didn't listen to the speech myself, and I'm basing my comment on what you said. It would have been good if you posted the link, so we could read how he said it and what else he said with it.

I personally don't take offense at words etc. so, normally I would say big deal to the Pope's comments.

However, the timing of these comments coming from the Pope, who to the Muslims at least is the leader apparent of the Christian world, is like smoking a cigarette while pumping gas (petrol) at a gas station (petrol for all your Europeans).

Its the little things that all add up.
