Top 10 list of mainstream articles on Peak Oil?

Unread postby Chichis » Fri 15 Apr 2005, 00:07:24

I'm looking for a good list of articles published by mainstream news media outlets on Peak Oil. I want to have a set of good Peak Oil articles from news organizations that average people would be willing to listen to (BBC, CNN, MSNBC, etc). The more open the article is about Peak Oil, the better. The best link I can think of currently is http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/3777413.stm

Since the Western world seems to think Al jazeera is a conspiracy rag, I would focus on:

National Geographic.... Wall Street Journal... Bulletin of Atomic Energy... Oil & Gas Journal.... Petroleum Review.... World Oil... Energy Technology...

The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

Lots of good links. I'd like to emphasize what was said though, average americans (we're talking 50% of whom voted for Bush) will generally only trust certain types of publications. I personally respect Al-Jazeera, but your average american will not. A lot of the articles linked by AlCzervik are great, thank you. =D

That BBC article you've linked is my favourite. I have a huge list of "respected news links" bookmarks, lets see if I can dig up some new sources for you. A lot of these I'll just use energybulletin links for, but EB puts the original link at the top of each article.

-ABC Australia: http://www.energybulletin.net/3322.html http://www.energybulletin.net/3379.html
-The NY Times: http://energybulletin.net/4698.html
-Oil & Gas Journal: http://www.energybulletin.net/3305.html
-San Francisco Chronicle: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2004/03/21/RESERVES.TMP#sections
-Philadelphia Enquirer: http://www.energybulletin.net/1765.html
-Rolling Stone Magazine: http://www.energybulletin.net/4856.html
-Physics Today Magazine (great retort to "alternative energy will save us"): http://www.physicstoday.org/vol-57/iss-7/p47.html
-The Wall Street Journal: http://energybulletin.net/2188.html

Three of the largest Canadian newspapers:
-The Toronto Star has done a lot, here are the most direct two: The End of Suburbia Draws Nigh Crude Dudes
-The Globe and Mail: Article
-The National Post (Canada) http://www.energybulletin.net/2368.html (Note: the post has also ran articles against PO)

If you're talking to these people online, you could also try these free movies:
-Straight from a US congressman: http://www.eande.tv/main/?date=041805
-The BBC (this is from the start of the Iraq War): http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article8582.htm

And of course, you should also mention there are books, academic journal papers, a documentary, etc. available whenever you bring this up.
"Our forces are now closer to the center of Baghdad than most American commuters are to their downtown office."
--Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, April 2003
