No kidding! Alone with someone like than is a real drag.

Now the hits the poor citizen took from the officer with the baton... well, that may have been a bit more than necessary. And the damage a dog can do in a few seconds is quite impressive. You've probably seen what I'm talking about so IMO it's best to avoid that sort of human tissue damage. A quick injury-free resolution is always best and that's what occurred here. Sweet! :)

I'm not a cop, but as a casual bystander I'd have to say a lone cop approaching an exceptionally dangerous gangster close enough to kick him in the head is behaving in a foolhardy, dangerous, and unprofessional manner.

Exactly. Which is why you don't run up and kick the guy if your safety is your primary concern. You only do that if you're trying to get a good lick in before the witnesses show up.

If you're referring to me, I assure you they were not, and the court agreed. The court granted class action status to all of us that were needlessly assaulted by the police that evening, and we received a very reasonable settlement. About the only conceivable justification for the police riot that evening was to protect the tender ears of the DNC delegates from having to hear that several thousand people didn't like them. They attacked a peaceful crowd of several thousand with batons, horses, pepper spray, and all manner of blunt projectile weapons in order to get us out of view before the DNC let out.

The purpose of the dog is not to use the perp as a chew toy. The purpose of the dog is to dissuade the perp from doing anything foolish like trying to fight the arresting officers. As I understand it, a police dog should be trained such that it wouldn't attack someone who is behaving passively like that anyway.

That's not what occurred here. What occurred here was assault and battery. The cop was pissed. He dealt with that by kicking an unarmed, compliant person in the face. That's not OK behavior. We can all understand why he's upset, and I'm not saying he should go to jail, but it's not ok to to just run up and kick someone in the face because you're upset. There need to be consequences for that.

WRONG!!!! There needs to be consequences for endangering society, neighborhoods, streets, and running from the cops.

There needs to be laws in place that if you run from the cops you'll be kicked in the face for every car you hit and every pedestrian you nearly kill! No more of this "well he's cornered now and on the ground and we're a "compasionate to criminals society" so we'll feed and shelter this poor soul and six months later release him." F#CK THAT!!!

I'll tell you that this guy is lucky the cops got him and kicked him in the face because the heartless mobs that will be the norm in this country 5 years from now will do a lot worse.

Straw man. Read my posts. I already said clearly, I've got no sympathy for the perp. If a jury wants to sentence him to a day of being kicked in the face by everyone in that town, I got no problems with it. The one thing's got nothing to do with the other. It's not about sympathy for the scum bag it's about cops being needlessly violent.

Maybe I’m a psychopath for thinking this but the first part of the chase makes me so angry I don’t really care about what happened when the chase was over.

My problem is this. If we as a society decide it's ok for the cops to kick the crap out of people just because they're pissed, then where do we draw that line? What's the limit? You did something violent? You did something dangerous? You made me put down my doughnut and chase you? Where's the line between that and Waco? Or Ruby Ridge? Those decisions need to be made by juries, not based on how upset the cop gets. Some cops are only going to get upset after a car chase. Others will get just as upset if they see a mixed race couple together, or someone they think is gay, or someone with a bumper sticker that insults the president. I don't give a crap about the perp, I just really want some assurance that it's not going to be me getting kicked in the face next. I've definitely seen what look when the cops go on a rampage, and honestly it doesn't scare me any less than dirtbag gangsters running amok.

My work takes me to a plant in Compton ocassionally. You have to call before you arrive so they can open the metal gates. The plant has reinforced concrete walls ( because of gunfire) and razor wire.

We have to go to lunch at the Casino, because they have armed security.

When TSHTF LA will be a major hot spot. What will happen will be worse than any riot.

I was referring to the flashlight hits the 'flores' member took immediately after he was disoriented by Officer Fierro, the initially arriving officer and hero who happens to be a local Mexican American. Speculation that Fierro committed a 'crime' is only that, pure speculation, and only one opinion shared by a minority of those in the local barrio. Plus, the violent 'flores' gangster didn't have anything kicked out of him by Fierro. He offered one appropriately disorienting blow and a fairly mild one at that. Fierro appropriately celebrated the capture of one of the most dangerous people running amok on the streets that very, very lucky day. If I could I would buy Fierro a cup of coffee of his choice and offer en espanol a most friendly 'muchos gracias mi Latino amigo' on behalf of everyone desiring safer streets.

I'm not sure why you all are spinning this into something terrible either. What's your commitment? Mine's defending a brave member of our law enforcement community from vile lies and mean remarks. And I'll do it each time without hesitation, as I have in the past right here.

Kicking the snot out of someone to me means repeatedly kicking someone to the point where they're significantly injured. Our little gangster was kicked once and was uninjured. That's the indisputable fact. It's our duty to defend cops like my Mexican American police officer friend, Officer Fierro, who performed in an exemplary manner capturing such a dangerous felon without inflicting injury on the gangster and without incurring injury to himself. I'm glad the incident ended happily. :)

Not all of them do.

There are two additional issues in this arrest not mentioned previously here. In the early edition of the interview with the police chief, the chief stated that he had watched the video footage twice and that one of the suspect's hands was hidden. This is not true, as anyone can see. Also, the cop who kicked the suspect, when assisting the other cop in handcuffing him, twisted the suspect's left arm to an almost vertical position behind his back, much farther up than where the other cop had the right arm positioned for handcuffing. This appeared to be an intentional attempt to cause further pain and/or injury to the suspect.
