They'll move on to areas less friendly to personal firearm ownership? Or attack anyway?

I would imagine there is a pretty steep learning curve for looters.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('vision-master', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Blueberry', 'Y')ou know, this might work in certain areas of the country (and I've read about a guy sitting on his front porch with a shotgun in his lap that didn't get looted during a hurricane) -- but what if TPTB are rounding up guns like they did in Katrina?

Then we are all screwed.

Organize a large neighborhood welcoming committee to meet TPTB with force deployed and apparent, to try to deter them. If TPTB are not deterred, then it is obvious that measure was necessary and TBTB have gone too far and are no longer concerned with legal niceties.

Good point about not letting someone get in the house, but I suppose that depends on whether or not you have booby traps at the points of ingress. (e.g. someone might kick your door in and trips a crossbow that puts a metal bolt in their chest for their efforts)

A lot of less lethal boobytraps can be used, like mouse traps with razors (among other things) soldered to the snapping part.

Waco ppl were idiots and religious zealots. Waco was a little bit different than Katrina situation.

First thing... bunkering down and letting yourself get surrounded is not good. Second thing: challenging the Feds in particular (as opposed to locals) and in a situation that has NOT deteriorated to near chaos like Katrina. Third thing: have plan for bringing in outside assistance, or at least Fourth thing: have a way to outflank the people who surround you if you are stupid enough to get surrounded (ie a relief force that comes in from behind and surprises surrounding force) Catch the surrounding force in a cross-fire and cut them to ribbons. After that, disperse into small groups.

Confiscating people's legal means of protection is illegal and unconstitutional. Anyone who enforces an illegal order deserves what's coming to them.

Come on guys. I understand what you're saying about not agreeing with confiscation of guns, but do you honestly think you with your AK47s etc are any match for a serious move to "pacify the population"?

Please consider the alternate plan of flying under the radar.

I can't take this "we'll surround them and cut them to ribbons" nonsense seriously. Looks like kids playing paintball to me. [smilie=qleft2.gif] [smilie=qright1.gif] [smilie=qleft5.gif] [smilie=qright4.gif]

I didn't see any Apache's flying over New Orleans to help in the confiscation of guns...

Was it an Iraqui peasant who shot down one of those with a 100 yo carabin? Or an Afgani?

I was watching a program about British soldiers in Afganistan. They were fighting Taliban through these compounds in a small town. Overhead an attack helicopter circled. The sargent who was standing next to the camera crew said;

"The chopper is flying around doing fuck all as always."

They are great for tearing up tanks but not so good against infantry.

You have to remember too that the Taliban have been fighting their insurgency for years against against just this sort of technology armed mostly with AKs and RPGs and they are far from beaten. Ambushes and traps like IODs are the only way they can fight though and any attempt on their part to go for even a small pitched battle would be a disaster for them.

No kidding. And you didn't see any organized militias of patriots surrounding the confiscators and "cutting them to ribbons" either.

:|

But anyway - What guns? You don't have any guns, remember? Except maybe this one shotgun. They got stolen, and you reported the theft. Remember? Or, alternately, you never bought any because you're a Librul.*

 What will defeat the helicopter is its operating cost per hour. Both fuel and ammo included. If they fly a mission and bust a tank or two they make a profit but if all they do is blow up my two sacks of rice they lose. You can't sustain spending $50,000 blowing up $50. for long. I don't want o be in the fire zone while they are figuring this out though. Whats the hourly fuel consumption of a Apache?

Re: My Neighbor gave me some survival tips yesterday for Mad Max

Postby Roy » Sat 16 May 2009, 07:48:33

Having seen lots of combat footage from the 'sandbox' I can tell you that I would not want to face the pointy end of the American military's stick.

They are the most deadly military force ever to exist on this planet. Far and away.

But, the caveat is that in spite of our awesome power to kill and destroy, the full power of our military cannot keep order in a city the size of Los Angeles short of exterminating everybody which they won't do. (Thank hawkman.)

Check out some of the predator videos and apace videos on liveleak.com. The guys getting chewed up by 20mm DU rounds never see or hear it coming. In one Predator video an Iraqi mortar crew sets up, launches 5 or 6 rounds, then loads up their mortar in the back of their Toyota pickup, drives all the way back through crowded streets to their house and get out of the truck thinking they've just got away with it.

Then a Hellfire missile hits the truck and destroys them, the truck, and their house. The drone's infrared cam watched them the whole time and tracked them back to their house.

They never saw it, heard it, or knew what was coming. Same with the Apache vids. The enemies are visible in the Apache's screen and they have no idea, that is until the DU rounds blow them to bits. Seemingly out of nowhere at least from their perspective on the ground.

I would not want to face that and I give those guys credit for having the balls to stand up and fight something oftentimes they can't even see.

As far as the US military locking down the United States? I don't see it outside of urban areas. There isn't sufficient manpower or equipment. And what they do have is fatigued, worn out, and pretty much depleted compared to say 2002 (uav fleet excepted).
