$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Tyler_JC', 'I') think we need to wait for more information to figure out what the heck was going on.

Until then, I'll just assume someone was making some rather questionable decisions.

I am pretty sure it's obvious they are complete dumbasses. Dreamers will always be just that. Dream on.

Too late for that. This is fast becoming another "Iran cable cut" tinfoil feeding frenzy.

Are you one of the folks who "knows best" for us too? These arm-chair-generals from academia who are running the show are completely clueless. No practical experience whatsoever but pretend to know how things should work.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Micki', 'A') good reminder for people to continue support the war on terror.
Support...or we'll slam another plane into the city

Seriosly, if they want a nice shot...haven't they heard about photoshop?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('kpeavey', 'L')et's say their story is true-that this was just a photo shoot. How much did that cost the taxpayer and what is the benefit when photoshop is so versatile?

I'm with sixstrings on this one. They were up to something.
Don;t trust anything a government official says, not even Hello.

Just to clarify, I don't think there was anything tinfoily nefarious going on. I just think it was either (a) a systems test or (b) a tactics test -- perhaps it was a real life maneuvers test to better understand what happened on 911.

After thinking about it some more, this "photo op" or "exercise" or whatever actually endangered a lot of people. The AF1 pilots are top notch to be sure, but a 747 is a big plane and accidents happen. They really had no business hotdogging around skyscrapers in a plane that size, however good the pilots may be.

The risk to civilians was not worth the photo op, or any systems test IMHO.

If it was any kind of test, it was a test of ground systems in the area, not the plane. There are a lot better places to test a plane's performance than in a cluttered city. And not just from a safety point of view either.

Personally, I go with the "idiot thinking it would make a great photo" theory.

I think the city of Manhattan should sue the federal government for mental pain and suffering. Each Manhattanite gets a check for $500 and a personally signed letter of apology from the President.

So there.

The White House already apologized (after the European apology tour the White House is now expert at apologizing).

I'm sure federal funds flowing into NYC already equal more than that. But then mayor-boy gets to decide who gets what...

Ok this is really getting to be a huge example of how stupid folks are and how we aren't able to think anymore in this country.

First of all there are good reasons why this was not "publicized". These aircraft, the "Air Force one" planes, are sensitive pieces of hardware. They cost a lot of money and there are not many of them. Publicizing where they will be on "off days" is just silly and stupid. Secondly this was most probably just a small portion of a normal training flight that the pilots and crew were on for regular training. Assuming it was anything else is blatantly idiotic. They detoured for a few minutes to get a Publicity shot. This isn't something that is unusual or unlikely. Its normal stuff, and anyone who knows about or has ever been attached to a specific unit, squadron, or organization flying aircraft knows that taking pictures of their aircraft next to popular or spectacular landmarks is common.

Speculating on anything else is dumb, its silly, and shows a lack of the ability to do any critical thinking at all. Snap out of it!

Just a short few minute search resulted in these photos, not only of the Statue of Liberty, but other places as well.

An apology? Give me a frakkin break! We are turning into a country of pussified weenies who cant even recognize the presidents plane when it flies right over their heads. Sheesh!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Shannymara', '1').6 million Manhattanites * 1.5 seconds per signature = ~28 days of signing, 24/7, if my math is correct. Seems unlikely.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Shannymara', 'M')aybe the plane was spraying the city with some kind of depopulation stuff so he wouldn't have to sign so many letters.

This official story is such BULLSHIT. First time i read/saw the video i thought the official story was a little "odd"... Like has been said, Photoshop can do magic, just like what Hollywood does. The timing is also suspect with this Swine flu stuff.... Something major is going on behind the scene me thinks.
lawns should be outlawed.

The White House wanted to keep the low level flight in broad daylight of Air Force One and a trailing fighter jet into restricted airspace over New York a secret so they didn't warn New York about it. What doesn't make sense about that? [smilie=bduh.gif]
