how about not rolling over and taking it. a general strike until DHS repeals this innane policy will do the trick nicely. How about all major corporations not engaging in airline travel or international business until this crap stops.
If you were trying to sell trade or market, you likely have propriatary info on your computer. Do you want DHS to load that into a database. Even if only "friends of the administration" have access, how long until you are out of business.

Well, DHS can already look in your trunk, in your backpacks, and in your shoes. Laptops, and digital storage devices are not much different, really.

Leave the kiddie porn, and bomb plans on the home PC, boys and girls.

Although, the idea of them keeping a person's belongings for further search is troublesome.

Hey, people lose their cars (and their freedom) because DHS found a roach under the passenger seat.

I have to wonder. Who are they going to get to do all this searching of people's hard-drives once they start confiscating them?
Hmmmm....computer science majors take note. A budding career in DHS awaits.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('berechia', 'E')ven if you use a removable usb, doesnt the hard drive also store TEMP files and cache information?

For this pupose, to scrub any information from the caches and hard drives, a Type-3 Antipersonnel/Antimateriel Incendiary Grenade[1], colloquially known as the thermite canister, or "Firebomb", the "Molotov" or the "flame grenade", is a Jiralhanae (Brute) grenade.. It is a multipurposed infantry explosives munition, and can be thrown 10 meters (32.8 feet) by the average soldier.

With proper license, the incendiary grenade could be placed on the laptop, and the pin pulled, ,making sure the thermite canister sits above the hard drive.

When the keyboard dissolves, the molten steel will fuse the hard drive into a slag heap making it more difficult to extract data.

This should be done with proper fire extinguisher nearby.

Don't breath the smoke and use eye protection.

The gold from the motherboard can then be collected and scavenged.

??So there you are, in line in your car, waiting your turn to get through the peace bridge. The maverick officer sticks an orange sticker on your windshiled and tells you to pull over. Is this when you are going to pull the pin???lol You all are in rare form today :)

You know, I just had a thought.

DHS just might become the largest federal employer in a short while.

The military-industrial complex might need a new name.

I suppose some might look at it as a public works/ job creation program, a la the New Deal. (silver linings, anyone?)

I have a feeling that GE, and Boeing may try to get in on the surveillance technology industry that is booming. China can only buy so much of that stuff. Some of it needs to be for domestic consumption.

Or will they privatize it? Contractors running the borders?
Like airline security.

Cool...it will be easy to get across when I slip a C-note to the minmum wage schlub sitting in the kiosk thumbing through his Playboy.

Oh gods...wage slaves armed with tasers.

All you gots ta do is join DHS and BE a border guard, you could be rich.

This is all just an expansion of the maffia.

And lots of power, andthey can feel up old grandmas and other exciding befenits. (sic) The can make people stand in line when they have to go to the bathroom, and refuse them water.

Great for the low IQ outcast who wants t get back at society.

You know, you can get a micro 16 gig chip and stick it in your ear and they would never find it.

this is so silly.

Homeland Security Goes Hollywood

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A') new reality television show focused on the agencies and employees of the Department of Homeland Security is sure to find fans among bureaucrats and department observers, and also is likely to draw some criticism from those who wonder if a primetime television show is the best use of the agency's time.

Flash: Long-Awaited DHS Oral Report Due Jan28

Unread postby mattduke » Fri 23 Jan 2009, 21:10:21

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'D')uring her first day on the job, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano issued five action directives, one being a report from the Transportation Security Administration on a threat assessment of the nation's critical transportation infrastructure.

TSA spokesperson Andrea McCauley confirmed that information from the long-awaited threat assessment of the national school bus fleet will be included.

“These action directives are designed to begin a review, evaluation and dialogue between the various functions of this department and me,” said Secretary Napolitano, in a press release announcing her intentions.

The TSA must provide Secretary Napolitano with an oral report by Jan. 28 and will include “a side by side comparison of the threat environment, resources and personnel devoted to each transportation sector.”

Can you believe Napolitano issued FIVE action directives? Looks like someone will be working a long weekend.

Planning Guidance for a Nuclear Detonation

Unread postby vox_mundi » Sat 31 Jan 2009, 14:51:38

The Homeland Security Council has just published the first edition of its planning guidance for responding to a nuclear detonation in the United States.

Link
Report
"The purpose of this guidance is to provide emergency planners with nuclear detonation-specific response recommendations to maximize the preservation of life in the event of an urban nuclear detonation. This guidance addresses the unique effects and impacts of a nuclear detonation such as scale of destruction, shelter and evacuation strategies, unparalleled medical demands, management of nuclear casualties, and radiation dose management concepts.

From the Report$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '.')..There will be no significant Federal response at the scene for 24 hours and the full extent of Federal assets will not be available for up to 72 hours. Emergency response is principally a local function. Federal assistance will be mobilized as rapidly as possible; however, for purposes of this document, no significant Federal response is assumed for 24 – 72 hours

In other words ... you're on you're own.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '.')..Initially, the nature of mass casualties will invoke a patient sorting system (i.e., initial triage) to maximize care to the most people. … It must be recognized that extremely difficult decisions and actions will be required of responders and clinicians regarding who will receive early treatment, who will not, and who will be classified as expectant. To maximize overall preservation of life with insufficient resources to manage mass casualties, severely injured victims may be placed into an “expectant” (expected to die) category early on although the criteria for “expectant” will vary depending on resources available. Although expectant, palliation (i.e., treatment of symptoms) should be done when possible. The skill and moral courage to designate severely injured victims into the expectant category in the first day following a detonation can serve to maximize overall preservation of life taking into account the lack of resources on hand to manage mass casualties. … Consideration should be given to concentrate medical personnel in treatment facilities with plans to avoid using them for first aid type duties. Instead, volunteers, support personnel and possibly minimally injured ambulatory victims can be asked and/or directed to help with a range of tasks including limited first aid, assisting the more severely injured, etc

Rule Number One: Don't stand in the 'expectant' line

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '.')..In a nuclear detonation, fatality management may be one of the most demanding aspects of the incident response, and the way it is executed will have a direct impact on the recovery of the community and the nation. The catastrophic significance of a nuclear detonation is quickly understood through the number of casualties it produces, including fatalities. Fatalities from the detonation can come about in essentially two ways: (1) those who are promptly killed by the blast, and possibly vaporized; and (2) those who die from mortal wounds later, either in the field or in the care of emergency personnel. This second group includes the “walking dead” and its effect should not be underestimated because it is likely that large numbers of people directly affected by the blast or fallout who would seemingly benefit from medical intervention are in fact expectant resulting from their combined injuries or radiation exposure. The quantity and phenomenon of “walking-dead” were not understood in the Hiroshima atomic bomb attack because large numbers of people died after varying latency periods following the detonation. Because of the potentially high number of deceased persons produced by a nuclear detonation, there is a complexity that stems from the overwhelming numbers of bodies versus the scarce resources available to manage them and our national values that lead us to respect the traditions of the deceased. This dichotomy means fatality management has the potential to become one of the most demanding aspects of the nuclear detonation response because of the concerns of respect for the deceased versus capability limitations to provide these gestures. Incident commanders must consider means to fairly accommodate public expectations while efficiently and appropriately handling human remains in a way that is consistent with their capabilities

Rule Number Two: See Rule Number One.

FEMA seems to be planning for this

Its called triage. Unlike the fairy land that many believe in, resources will have to be allocated to do the most good for the most folks. A utilitarian use of resources. And FAR more likely to happen will our new invertabrate president.

Yeah but it makes such goooooood paranoiac ranting. Check out those rail cars for "prisoners" and those on the 'A" list complete with leg chains already installed you see on "patriot" web sites... They are in fact auto haulers with chain downs installed, but I guess those "patriots" never saw a car hauled on the train...LOL

Don't enlighten them, it makes them easy to spot in any crowd. Oh and don't bother to try to explain the shape of levy boxes, none of them know anything about keys and arches either.

Close, but not quite. Since at least 1979, when as an EMT I I was trained for disasters, it was called reverse triage. Earthquake disaster drills, first thing they pound into your head is do NOT rescue someone. Send a civilian. Then triage. Walking wounded get priority. Not severely injured. Been a standard in all disaster training I know off. Known to everyone but untrained civilians.
