Peakoil the Global Depression the New World Order whatever you believe I have one simple question.

2009 is the years things get really bad the year when it no longer feels like business as usual.

How many people agree with this?

Well, as horrifically bad as things may get in '09, just realize... they can always get worse!

Even Heinburg is saying that we got months left before the capital markets collapse. I don't go for the NWO stuff. I think a lot of people just can't imagine that the people at the top are that stupid, it must be planned. As far as I'm concerned they are just so full of themselves that they really think they can pull it off, they really are that stupid. There is no way they could pull off that kind of scheme, it would be impossible in a post oil society anyway.

"Well, as horrifically bad as things may get in '09, just realize... they can always get worse!"

Of course since the collapse of the capital markets will cause the collapse of oil production (and a lot of other things) you could say things will get way worse before the get really really bad.

I don't know any more than the next guy, but my money (literally) is on a crash toward the end of 2009. By crash I mean financial collapse, dollar going to hell in a basket, that is a REAL crash, not just the DOW. May be wrong, hope I am wrong, but planning for it.

Yup. Feels like the start of that to me too. My real concern is that the economy will soon decay beyond 'poor' and descend into a darkness we haven't seen in ages. That's what I feel coming.

Many of us are asking this question over and over again, as it is crucial for any sort of preparation.
But it simply cannot be answered, there are so many stories around. It was the same with the oil price. Most of us agreed that oil will go to $200 this year, but it didn't, but the economy crashed. Most of us agree that the oil price will go up once again, but it might not happen, i.e the economy crashes so hard that there is simply no demand.
As far as I can overlook, it depends on were you are as well, and I think America won't be the ideal place to be. Other economies might crash slower. But maybe Europe won't do better as it relies on exports.
My bet is: some month more, but that's a real bet.

This year will be bad, but the die-off won't start until ~3 years from now.

LOL. Way worse doesn't sound as bad as really, really bad. Way worse could be unemployment at 18% Really, really bad would be the collapse of everything. Could it happen this year? yep, you betcha. I see dead people.

The worst outcome would be hyperinflation followed immediately by falling off the oil plateau, so we would have depression conditions ala Argentina followed immediately by the oil crash. Those like myself who haven't finished their preps would no longer be able to, either because their savings have been devalued or because of a breakdown in the supply of goods.

I find myself grateful every day that the dollar hasn't collapsed.

Heck, I thought things were going to crash last year, I will agree that there are ALOT of people hurting,,, BUT, there are WAY WAY more doing just fine. I had the oportunity recently to talk to a 101 year old woman. And I asked her about the great depression. She said "my family had money, it didn't affect us"...... OK

I think rite before TSHTF, we will have big inflation, so that the wealthy folks can still get what they want. It may be limited and expensive. But they don't care.

Inflation is the wealthys secret weapon. just wait and see.

I've been planning for a crash around Dec 2012. But things are moving faster than I expected. Still, I think we will weasel through this for at least another year.

somewhere the realization has to set in ... that "when are we gonna get there" may be a natural thing to wonder ... but still a diversion, in the category of the metaphor about re-arranging deck chairs.
