$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('vtsnowedin', '8')) Three simultaneous head shots from a moving ship to a bobbing small boat. Technically the equivalent of landing a dead engine airliner in the Hudson without flipping it. A piece of professional work which will now be legendary.

there are could be more than 3 snipers on that ship. Still , good job Obama. 9 558 663 more to go.

That captain of Maersk was indeed a brave and likeable chap. But think twice about the results of this "rescue" operation, that means next round the pirates will kill some of the captives just to make an impression.

Hm, it was just in the news, one of their leaders in Somalia announcing such change of rules, not only ransom, but also want some U.S. and French blood.

Since Obama made the call, I guess this counts as black-on-black violence. So typical.

Within days of his March 1801 inauguration as the third President of the United States, Thomas Jefferson ordered a naval and military expedition to North Africa, without the authorization of Congress, to put down regimes involved in slavery and piracy. The war was the first in which the U.S. flag was carried and planted overseas; it saw the baptism by fire of the U.S. Marine Corps--whose anthem boasts of action on "the shores of Tripoli"--and it prefigured later struggles with both terrorism and jihad.

The next step should be to target their base of operations. Military intelligence knows which ports harbor these criminals. The towns benefit from the crimes and should be made to pay for supporting the criminals.

Or perhaps it stems from population overshoot for which the whole freaking species is responsible and assigning blame is beside the point?

The question is, what are you going to do about it now?

It's not necessarily a matter of sympathy. It's a matter of understanding the fundamentals of the problem, and therefore it can point towards a solution: stop creating pirates and break the cycle of violence.

Overpopulation as a the cause: perhaps, but we could be operating below carrying capacity and I'm sure there'd be those that will set up nice little systems of governance that ensure that most of the people do the work and a few of them keep most of the resulting wealth.

Why is it that convenience stores sometimes have armed security, but giant transport ships don't? I'm assuming there must be something I don't know about international maritime law. Perhaps countries don't like the idea of foreign ships pulling into port with a bunch of foreign soldiers? Looks too much like an amphibious assault?

All this will do is turn the Gulf of Aden into a bloodbath.

Is that before or after we all join hands and sing coom-by-ya?
The "cycle of violence" is called life. Only the dead know peace, and I'd hazard to guess that piracy was probably the reason people invented boats in the first place. Maybe not piracy proper, but killing people and stealing stuff anyway.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')hy is it that convenience stores sometimes have armed security, but giant transport ships don't?

I'd imagine it's because convenience stores are more likely to be attacked.
