$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ludi', '
')If you think a person can't be middle class and not own a home, well, we just have different definitions of the label "middle class."

How would you define middle class in America?

Part of my definition of middle class would be the ability to purchase a single family residence in the area you live that is in a nice and safe neighborhood.
How can Ludi spend 8-10 hrs/day on the internet and claim to be homesteading???

The ability to pay for a place to live, food, clothing, some entertainment, on an income within the middle 3 quintiles, depending on family size.

In my definition, being middle class doesn't guarantee you the ability to live anywhere you want - that is a luxury for the wealthy - those in the 5th quintile.

For instance, I might be able to afford a small apartment on the Sunset strip on a middle class income, but I shouldn't expect to be able to buy a house there just because I happen to live there.

Nice apartment on the Sunset Strip: $1100- $1300 per month

House near the Sunset Strip (West Hollywood): $2,475,000

I'm talking about the middle class in the USA, because you asked "How would you define middle class in America". There are parts of the US where the middle class can't afford to buy a house. Just because they might want to live in those areas and can't afford to, doesn't make them poor.

So you believe it is strictly tied to income?
