Brilliant!

Suggestion, add a page with a name attached to each chareceture so we know which posters we are laughing at :) I recognize most of the ones on that set, but I want to be sure lol.

Wow, great comic guys! I never use exclamation marks, but I daresay this one warrants it.

It's funny how the people on this forum really do make the perfect cast of characters.. like Oilfinder is the perfect foil / denier / general naysayer (no offense intended).

I love how you cleverly work the avatars in.. like Pops' t-shirt, and Ludi with the cat.

Here's another idea for a comic.. how about "The Doomers." It would be about a family of Doomers living amidst clueless neighbors in suburbia.

EDIT: To help with the time issue of all the drawing, you could make a few stock close-ups of the characters (that could be repeated) just for the sake of having more dialog. Like, have a few standard poses for each character that you could cut and paste.

I'm not saying make the whole comic that way, just use it to give more back and forth dialog without overburdening the artist.

I am pretty sure that is standard fare for most published cartoons. I have a full-color Dilbert cartoon calendar on my desk, you
can see that a lot of the characters, especially old pointy-ears himself, they are the same. Just the backdrop changes.
But good suggestion none-the-less.

The genius in FlapJax's drawings are in the details he puts into them, but clearly it takes a lot of time to draw them up this way. I don't think he can continue to draw the Doomstead Diner in this much detail, though of course I would love it if he did. However, the second strip has 9 panels, and its even more detailed so if he tries to draw it with as much detail as I am putting in, then I think it will take too much time.

Dilbert has very stark backgrounds, very simple cartoon characters. FlapJax draws rich backgrounds and Caricatures more than simple cartoons. I love the stuff, but it probably needs to be simplified quite a bit to make it possible to draw so many panels. I'm not an artist though, so I really don't know how long it takes him to draw what he does.

We'll see how it evolves I hope.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('cbxer55', 'O')ne is never to old for cartoons.
Its my favorite section of the newspaper.
Most of it, especially Sports, is only fit for the kitty litter box.
Well, fj is out there, putting it on the line. That's to be admired. And I do. But I put up the reference to Watterson for a reason. Enough said. Don't want to be a spoilsport. Let's give it some time and see what comes of it.

Paranthetically, the reason Calvin never grew up is because Watterson refused to keep producing the comics which were being used by the syndicate which he was beholden to in ways he did not approve of by contracts he could not get out of. Some folks can't be bought. He was one of them. Bill Watterson is a man who refused the money. He is a HERO.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I'll tell you something about me. I went to UC Santa Cruz as an Art Major. I had a solo show of my work once and the faculty gave me a thumbs up. They liked it. I woke up every morning at the crack of dawn to practice drawing straight lines and concentric circles just to develop hand-eye coordination. I could capture a likeness in 30 seconds. But they taught me nothing. There was so much I needed to know and none of them knew anything. In disgust, I switched majors to geology. At least that way I learned something.

Sure, but geologists tell us a lot more. What are those rocks doing there? Why are there mountains? What are they made of? How long did it take to build them? How long will they last? What are the time scales? What are those huge bone fossils? What used to be reality? I have no regrets about leaving art behind. The intellectual pursuit of geological knowledge is the best thing that ever happened to me.
