But the idea that we could just Schiff our way out of this and it wouldn't be that bad, well I think it WOULD have been that bad.


It may still be that bad..... the US economy is being even more heavily burdened by the trillions of dollars that Barrack "giggles" Obama is borrowing to "push it off for a year or two." :badgrin:

That is a good point...

Extreme price instability for all necessary goods (food, energy, etc, +- 300%); large scale loss of jobs at effected companies, both direct and indirect (unemployment -> 20%); just about anyone and everyone attempting to trade (stocks, bonds, etc) gets annihilated. That sort of thing, followed by a few more months of a return to stability minus a bunch of economic activity that produced nothing of value.

I don't think anyone starves to death in the US as a result.

My point is that with our current approach we haven't avoided that result; we've just expanded the time frame that the extremely bad conditions will afflict us, and increased the chance of not being able to climb back up. Too many markets losing too much value over too much time. Starvation is a symptom of a sustained disaster; and I think we are flirting with it.

IMHO, he wasn't punch-drunk. He just missed his teleprompter.



Liberals love that sort of thing. Poking fun at the less fortunate and laughing at the plight of those hit by the economy or joking about the physically or mentally less fortunate is cool as long as you're The War Maniac in Chief. He can do and say and make as much war as he wants whenever he wants and liberals will still kowtow to him.



He could eat a live chicken feathers and all on national TV and liberals would smile and talk about how cute it was.


Who are these liberals you speak off? Im dying to now. They sound like really unpleasant people. :roll:


Oh, you're entirely wrong about that. Liberals are mostly good and well intentioned people offering heart wrenching rationale for their craving for more war and all that 'support Obama' nonsense. It's just that they've been led astray.


From what ive read, you're not neither a "conservative" nor a "liberal" so what are you? And more importantly, why do you divide your own country in to two groups when you belong to neither one? Do you really think that you're the only person in your country who is able to think for himself instead of picking a side and agreeing on everything that their half of the country says?

True. There are plenty of smaller regional banks who are just fine. They could have liquidated the large banks and given the business to the smaller regional banks. It would have been a headache for a while but it would have been better for the economy in the long run.


That's if the regional banks would have the business or 'assets'. Real bankers want to know what they have on their books, they may not want a bunch of stuff they don't understand even if it is given to them. I was just at the Wizards-Bulls game last night with a friend who is a regional corporate loan officer for a large regional bank. He was describing the process he goes through when a case hits his desk. It involves a lot of research, talking to the applicant, site vists, etc. He will often overturn loan denials because of gaining an in depth understanding of the businesses that applicant are putting up as cash flow, or deny applications where he believes the assets are over valued.

So what do we wind up with afterwards? What's the new normal? If it's 3rd world poverty do you think everybody would just accept that with humility? I'm not sure we could ever get back to where we were circa, let's say, 2001.

What people are willing to accept sometimes is at odds with the set of all available options.

No, we don't get to go back to 2001 boom-o-matic. NO, Jonny and Jan do not get to go back to the lifestyle of jetting all over the world on the wages of a middle class job.

We still can choose to keep roofs, good food, air conditioning, and some personal mobility.

I fear that we are however, choosing to jet around for a few more years at the expense of eventually wishing we could afford AC/Heat for our bedrooms.
