It looks like the new software thinks we all joined at midnight GMT, which is making us all look at the time according to our time zone settings for the forum.

So this Friday is the 13th, and if the google calendar is correct we only get 2 of them this year.

Anything special planned? Or any predictions of good/bad/ugly events because of the date?

.
As a peace offering to all the porn-doomers , on this Friday the 13th some musing on the End of the Humans

This has been debated by scientists and philosophers for a long time
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_catastrophic_risk

it roughly divide in two
exocentric , ( stuff happen ) and Anthropocentric ( we did it to ourselves )
I'll only consider the 1 million years scope , after all ,long term we are all gone anyway
and humans as computer using societies

so here we go
exocentric , first is the old classics ,

- Massive celestial impact and super volcanoes it has happen and will most probably happen
it would have to be a really really big one ,
half of the world population going belly up would take us back a few decades only

-Celestial climate change , the Earth climate can vary from pretty hot to a giant snowball due to orbital influences
the milankovitch cycles could superimpose several effects , from the orbital variation ,change in the Earth tilt , slowing down of the rotation to create a wild swing in feed-backs .

-alien invasion , a bit of an unknown of course , but it's quite hard to disprove

- cosmic burst of gamma ray , the sun turning Nova , a dense intergalactic Hydrogen cloud ,
nothing much to worry about beside throwing a last good party if there is time

-any number of whatever might just fall on us with or without warning

Anthropogenic human made disasters

- Unlimited ,long lasting nuclear exchanges ,some avalanche of strike and counter strikes ,
growing from the highly strategic targets to the less important , to pretty much anything and anybody ,
that's a classic pattern of warfare , when it start the commanders have focus but the thing is like sticking one arm in a wood-chipper , easy to start but it quickly take a dynamic all of its own .

- technological stuff up , or the "grey goo" scenario , Human ingenuity develop a trans genetic disaster for crops , self replicating robots hell bend on replicating themselves until the last gram of resources
digging up some incredibly virulent virus spreading faster than transport lines can collapse or victims die
leading to a world wide runaway infection

-genetic and technological stagnation ,
a super state of Big Sister leading to political repression , scientific atrophy and male castration
( we are well on the way for this one )

- natural resources depletion , peak everything eventually , water and soil resources are not infinite either ,
it cause colapse and disorders , governments collapse , the law of the meanness , Darwinian law rule OK

- Antropogenic climate change , by itself a low risk but it could create some vicious feed back

feel free to add or subtract any and don't forget ,
Friday the thirteenth is one of the safest day of the year , people are scared and use caution , do so :)
