I heard today I'll be a Grand-Pops again and also heard I'll be a Pops-in-Law again at some date in the future - pretty cool.

Say what you will about the world as we know it but we are programed to enjoy such things - tonight I am.

Any other good news?

Thanks Shanny.

A new grandchild from one kid and a new Daughter-in-Law from another in one day is a pretty good omen.

Congratulations Pops!
There is none so blind as those who cannot see the rose for thorns.
We are having a baby.
I know PO doomer; having a BABY???
Yes. Why?
Because I believe life will go on. It will be very different; but the children who do make it through the coming hard times will be far better able to cope than the current generation.
Parenting and Grandparenting are a very healthy challenge in any environment; they are our prime motivator for goodness.
When we give up on the world to the point of giving up on future generations; we have effectively lost real purpose in our lives.

Every day is a good day around here...

I have 62 taps going for maple sap, equipment on hand for about 20 more.
Sitting on about 60 gallons of sap to boil down, should get 1.5-2 gallons out of it.
Firewood arrives tomorrow, syrup production will begin in earnest.
Sample batch turned out Grade A-the best syrup they make, only I'm "they"
80 taps should get me about a gallon of syrup per day for the next 3-4 weeks.

Greenhouse project is going well. Only drilled through my hand once, way below normal. South wall goes in place tomorrow. This monster is 80 feet long, 13.5 wide, 9+ high. Lumber up north is much cheaper than Florida. I'm gettin' 'er done for less than $1.50/sqft. I'll have transplants for sale in 6 weeks, when the early gardeners start their planting.

Made whole wheat biscuits last night. Still improving-furthest they've been from a hockey puck, downright edible this time.

My cat is fixed. I didnt even know the thing was busted.

My sister got her taxes back, took care of a loan I made to her last fall. $300 clams, baby, gonna go spend it on whores and blow.

I finally got to Saline Valley.

Sometimes I feel like I'm a personal mission to be sure I use up my share of oil visiting as many beautiful places as possible before the oil runs out. I rented a 4wd in LA on sunday and drove to Saline Valley, in eastern California near Death Valley, where there is a beautiful hot spring overlooking the salt flats. Legend had it a bevy of naked hippie girls once lived there in an old school bus, and they were so bored they would joyfully greet the weary traveller and soothe his soul. I'm must report the naked hippie girls are not in residence but the valley itself is absolutely incredibly natural, undeveloped except for tiny hardscabble mines, and beautiful.

What a sweet little gal, Aaron! You must be so tickled.

My good news is that my son's (high school senior) basketball team won the gold medal in the city finals last week.
Very exciting game. The senior girls from the same school also won gold. First time in 25 years, apparently!

That's about it.

My husband was not one of the 100 teachers let go this week! What a huge relief, at least until they have to cut again next year...

Congrats on the babies, y'all! :-D

My husband and I had a lot of fun when the matriarch of our "adopted family" brought her little grandson over to look at the sheep, chickens, and turkeys. There can't be too many things more pleasant than sitting in the hay with a toddler while surrounded by gentle sheep. :)

Our personal good news is our business got a contract for a fun and challenging project for one of our best clients - so we aren't going in the poorhouse soon anyway!
