And it pays $15 bucks an hour. The USA appears to be shutting down.

I suspect this coming summer will be a time of growing unrest and instability in the USA as we head to 10% + 'official' unemployment. The speed of this meltdown is freaking me out.

Paraphrasing what a wise professor once told me, 'political and social stability' are driven by the 'economy'. If true, watching this new era unfold will be utterly fascinating.

The kids who did it should have cleaned it up and if you could not figure out who it was (hard to believe because every kid is a narc if you approach them the right way) then you do a lottery and who ever "wins" gets to clean it up.

Then next time they'll narc.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('cbxer55', 'W')hen we lived in California, after getting laid-off from an aircraft manufacturer due to the 09/11 attacks, I worked as a custodian at MOjave High School. Most boring, and often disgusting job I have ever done. But at the time, 2002 it was paying near $13.00 per hour. My wife was Payroll Secretary at the time, and still maintains contact with her former co-workers there, It would be paying over $18.00 right now.
I would hesitate to do that job again though. Most of you are probably aware of what teenagers are capable of. I have not seen one quite this bad, but pretty darn close. It happened early in the morning, and all the day shift custodians left it for me. It stayed that way for darn near the whole school day, according to one of the students I talked to.
As I said it was not this bad. But pretty darn close. It was disgusting. I could not stay in there but a few minutes at a time, constantly retching.
Next day the principal asked how come I did not do any of the normal stuff, cleaning classrooms, etc. I showed him a pic taken with my cellphone, told him I spent the whole eight hours cleaning up this mess that the custodians on first shift left for me. Also told him to talk to the student who told me it was that way all day. Principal was pretty pissed. It never happened again.
I will not readily accept a job like that again. Some things are below human dignity. photo deleted by eastbay

I woundn't have cleaned that mess up. Where was the Head Custodian? Drinking coffee?

No more quoting that post... ungh.

gross
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

The guy I bought my house from was a janitor. His wife was a professional of some kind and made tons of money. I always thought they were an odd pair.

Anyhow, he must have used some nasty hard-core cleaning stuff from work in the utility room, because the paint on the sink has been cleaned right off in places.

He worked in a middle school. I asked him once about how messy the kids were and he said working swing shift he never got stuck cleaning up anything too bad. It was all about sweeping and cleaning the floors and keeping the paper filled.

.... but I still wouldn't want to do it. Not for $15/ hr. Apparently many think otherwise.

Wiscon cur, your idea would violate their rights, actually hold them responsible. You would smeared in the local paper, probable sued by the parent (statistically only one). That's one reason why the system is so screwed up.

This seems to be a nationwide trend. I posted a Las Vegas story a couple months ago, where a couple thousand showed up to apply at just one new burger joint.

Then about three weeks ago I saw a story in my local paper, again a burger joint -- they had a couple hundred show up. There've been other stories as well, like the firefighter job in Miami drawing a thousand applicants.

When do we see white Americans out in the orchards, fields, etc picking veggies/fruits? When i start reading/seeing that i'll know we have taken a big step towards collapse :) Right across the river is mostly Mexicans picking the huge apple crop they grow over there.
lawns should be outlawed.

It's odd you mention that. I remember reading about the Great Depression, how white men found it very stressful to be forced to take jobs normally done by black men. They were glad to have a job, for sure, but it was very hard on the ego.

Even in a job seekers market, we've often had over 100 applications for every available warehouse worker position.

Employers that don't require a high school diploma, skills, experience and don't perform background checks and drug testing are often overwhelmed with job applicants.
