Thanks, Blu. I think I mentioned it in passing in a couple threads. She had some kind of metabolic problem, blood chemistry thing, along with several other problems (heart, lungs, stroke, polymyalgia). It took them so long to stabilize her, she was bedridden to the point where she can't even walk now and has to go through physical therapy. It's just been one thing after another. She's one of those "defectives" folks here would "cut the rope" on. She's not even that old, only late 60s.
We don't get along all that well, not being really able to communicate except about what she wants to talk about. So no talking about anything like peak oil. Especially since she's been having all these problems, she and my dad have enough to deal with, I guess. Although with virtually the entire family suffering from serious illness or old-age (my dad is 78), it would be good to be able to talk about problems and the future. But it hasn't worked out well to try in the past.
Fortunately, they have fabulous health insurance, so haven't had to pay for any of this out of pocket. I'm sure it's in the $100,000+ range by now. She's been in the hospital for about a month now.
I guess people who don't have good health insurance just go broke or die.
