Bad hair day? Yeah, let's grab Geithner and tar and feather him. Schwarzenegger has gone soft. Let's tar and feather him, too. Our mayor is a dirtbag, too. Let's tar and feather him. Rush Limbaugh, let's tar and feather him. Dan Rather, I really like to see him tarred and feathered. That sleazy senator from Nevada Reid, Pelosi, Barney Frank - what kind of name is Barney? Tar and feather him.

I'm just tired of people saying "oooh, yeah, let's have a revolution" and NEVER DOING ANYTHING!

All talk and no action.

I agree. Life is still going on, pretty much as usual for the majority of people. Once most of the toys are gone people will start getting angry. Once things like food, heat, gas and electricity get scarce, I think there will be open conflict.

Btw, I haven't advocated revolution. However, [edit: The IRS doesn't need to see what I orginally wrote here] and reducing my expenses, so I'm all for starving the Beast.

I totally agree with the revolution!! Let's all meet in Washington DC on Good Friday, April 10th to protest!! I'm sick and tired of our inept government spending tons of non-existent money on hopeless fantasies!!! We cannot "repair" this broken system. We need to start over!!

And how would a "protest" accomplish that, exactly?

A customer wanted to KILL me today at work. No kidding. I said something about BO and he went NUTS, talking about how the rebublicans had destroyed the country and the democrats were going to fix it etc. I don't think I've EVER seen anyone that angry at work. After he left, my co-worker said there's going to be blood in the streets soon, that guy was really, really angry.

A "protest" can easily escalate into something much more effective and interesting! Just get a big mob of angry people together in one place and you'd be surprised what can be accomplished!! Plus it might be fun!! Washington DC, April 10th - Be there!!

People need to repent, Ludi.

God brings judgments onto the world to wake people up. He wants precious souls in the Lifeboat for eternity.

"If any man have an ear, let him hear. He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints." (Revelation 13:9-10)

I don't really understand the rabid partisanship. Cramming complex issues into a dichotomy based on a the two party system is begging for a stupid outcome every time. I don't know if its some kind of psychological predisposition, but so many people seem to pick a side, assert that their side is infallible and that the nations problems are the fault of the other guys. Both parties exploit this to good effect.

I think in a slow crash type scenario (like what we're currently experiencing), fractures in society could well occur along party lines. I think economic, geographic or racial lines are also a likelihood. Maybe a combination, like several people have said here recently, its always more complicated than you expect.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ludi', 'I') suppose this is thread is in violation of the COC.

Nope, this thread is why the CoC was created.

The never ending spew of Jedi fantasy's about someone else tossing off Big Brother's boot from the whinny Geek's cheek, as well as things having nothing to do with PO in the least is probably this site's biggest flaw.

Perhaps the focus on BS talk, rumor, speculation etc, instead of examples of action in the face of of PO, is the same as the acne on many posters face or at least their psyche.

No matter, I agree with Ludi, the more you concern yourself with things you can't change, the less you do about the things you can.
The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities.

The last few post illustrate my point, all rhetoric and no substance.

rabid partisanship. Cramming complex issues into a dichotomy

Marching on Washington...

What a load of tripe.

Not one word about any one thing anyone has done to change their own life aside from a weekend trip.

I interpreted the thread title as talking about a political revolution, so that's what I posted about. Since I joined this site I'd say 75% of my posts have been in the Planning for the Future forum, either contributing knowledge I thought was pertinent and helpful, sharing something I did, or asking questions to get some guidance from people with experience regarding something I was planning to do. What's the problem with occasionally posting about something else?

When I first joined PO.com, I was surprised that there was no "activism" thread. After a month, I understood why not. Pops had the "email the POTUS" thread, and I thought that was good idea.

What I've gathered so far:
1. something needs to be done
2. all current actions and suggestions are wrong

Whether you're talking about a battle, non-profits, construction, business, surgery, sports, whatever... it seems to me that success depends on having a plan and people knowing their roles. What is our goal? Can someone direct me to our mission or vision statement? I clicked on "About Us" and it linked to a member directory.

"Make a plan and work it". OK, this sounds promising. Lets say that we get 90% of our members "peak oil ready" (as defined by... some criteria). What about our communities? After all, no man is an island. But I'm having a hard enough time getting my own shit together. I'm woefully unqualified to prepare an entire community (assuming they're even willing). But let's just say that we get a handful of communities ready in each state, then what? I guess Canada and Mexico, right?

We talk about needing leaders on the national and global scale. Maybe we should talk about our own village first. I've worked in situations that suffered from poor leadership, and we're experiencing many of the same symptoms. The last thing you want to do, is tell a group of people interested in your cause is that what they're doing is wrong and useless. Is it any wonder the other forums are the most active?

Well you'd have to be an idiot to take financial advice from CNBC or pit traders, so what's the mental capacity of someone that would turn to them for political advice?
