Logging out of all locations from one computer.
I have logged onto the peakoil.com forums from several public computers and upon re-arrival to them, I noticed I was still logged on. For security purposes, is there any way to log out of all locations from one?

According to Forrester Research, 70% of all software development projects fail. Look at that 178 million dollar FBI software that can't even DEMO...

What you are asking for is simple, but for good architectures and good software engineering.

Session timeouts should be easy. Cookie management to erase those other public computer logins should also be easy...

It's best to assume that all software and internet connections are unreliable and insecure, manually log out, purge all cookies before leaving... The FBI can't get it right with a $178 million dollar project, peakoil.com is doing their best considering this is part of open source...

I CANT LOG OUT.

Every time I try to log out and then return to the Peak Oil page it says welcome socrates1fan!
What is wrong with the site?!

You have to dump your cookie cache.

Download CrapCleaner and use that.

Logout

When I logout and close the browser, somehow I'm still logged-in. I mean, I go back to peakoil.com and I'm automatically logged-in, no need to enter the username and password.

How do I logout for good?

Funny you mention work. I am kinda paranoid when it comes to IT and what web pages I read at work. Peakoil and Survival blogs. I like to keep a low profile so I don't get labeled a loon. Here is what I do.

Firefox with FoxyProxy extension.
Putty ssh client with a 1024 bit encryption key.

I ssh into my home computer with a SOCKS proxy tunneling enabled and point Foxyproxy to that tunnel so all my web/ftp/DNS/cookie traffic from Firefox goes through that tunnel. All encrypted and bypasses any logging or content restrictions. A little bit slower in general but makes for a secure way to read web pages that I deem sensitive. Use mobile Firefox on a USB key and all histories and cookies are wiped clean every time I close Firefox.

I use microsoft internet explorer.

I know how to clear my browser and all that, but I agree a logout
button would be nice, if just from a design perspective. Many sites
have a log out button so users don't have to fiddle with clearing their
browser cash and all that. Just a simple javascript set as a link that
clears the local cookie would suffice. As simple and unnecessary as it
might sound, many professional sites have log out buttons for users
and it's not hard to do. The only minus of putting a log out is it might
encourage users using multiple login names.

Internet Explorer 7.

Tools --> Internet Options --> General Tab --> The delete button under the Browsing history section. Delete all. And you are done.

That will wipe out all history, temp internet files, cookies, form data, and passwords.

It is a big enough company that as long as I am not surfing porn and get the job done, they don't really care what I do and do not know me from Adam and since this and news is about all I read at work, I don't worry about it too much...

If I was concern I just wouldn't check it when at work.

Can't logout

When I logged in a couple days back, I got the registration thingie, and made the mistake of telling it to "remember me" --stay logged in. I'm not sure that is a good idea, so I tried unscueesfully to logout several times, but every time I bring up the site I'm logged in. Can I undo this? Do I need to worry about it?

Clear your cache & cookies, patience. 'Remember me' is cookie-based...
