I can't imagine why you would want to take on a wife? Headaches! Nagging!

In any event, the best places to find them are poor 3rd world countries. So in about 6 months, you can find one in the USA. With your farm in VT, if you can feed her you can have your pick. Put up an ad at a Community College for a Domestic, and you can interview desperate young girls by the thousands.

What, RE's advise? There are plenty of women who will put up for room&board. Have you ever seen a young homeless woman?

I read the whole thread. I forgot it was Heineken who started the thread, I thought it was VTsnowedin. So move the farm to Virginia, and I STILL can't see why he wants to get PMSed on every month at that latitude EITHER.

LOL! I just have to tell you that it gets worse! (at least in my case, and in a lot of cohorts that I spoke to on this matter.) You have enough hormones so that you're not cyclin' "physically" anymore, but there are enough to mentally/emotionally affect you. I've spoken with women who say that the rage can go from 0-80mph in less than a minute.
There's been times in my store where my customers have almost pushed me to the max. I could have taken their head off in a blink of an eye. I just have to step back and relax, even if it means turning my back on them.
That was a few years ago, now, it seems to be levelling off...Thank the Gods! That and that mexican yam/hormone body cream, your best friend!

I get enough grief when the PMSers and Hot Flashers here online go off on me, I do NOT need to subject myself to this torture IRL. I consider anyone who willingly subjects himself to this stuff to be a borderline masochist, its just not worth it for the purposes of dipping your wick once a week or even once a day (which maybe lasts the first year of marriage).

The only worthwhile purpose I can see for marriage is for procreation, to make sure both parents participate in the responsibility of raising the child. However, given we are in Overshoot, I don't see why you would bring any new children into the world anyhow, so out goes that rationale for wife-shopping.

Marriage is highly over-rated IMHO. Heck, I won't even own a Dog, they require too much attention all the time. Women are even worse, they are VERY high maintenance.

Yeah, she's special. But if my memory serves me right, and she should correct me if it doesn't, a man who wanted her might have better success if he was a woman. I've got nothing against that and I picture her romantically tucked away in that little cabin in the boondocks of Montana, hauling wood, the country doctor. Rugged, tough. Nice.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Byron100', 'I') don't see why your brother gets to shirk all responsibility to look after your mother, when you're the one that's taking care of her 24/7/365. Is it really too much to ask him to stay with her one or two weeks out of each year so you can get away from the homestead? If anything, he owes you an all-expense paid trip to Hawaii for all the work and hardship you've put yourself through in the past couple of years in regard to your parents....lol.

My brother has a very sick wife, a job, and sons, Byron. He's struggling up there.

It's possible he may move here if he loses his teaching job, which is looking more and more likely.

Some recent posts have asked, Why get married at all?

Certainly, that question's on my mind.

I want to make one significant, sustained effort to "get it right" before giving up. Then I can face hermithood with a clear conscience.

I had a date tonight with a rather attractive woman.

However, throughout most of the meal I had trouble meeting her eyes. She was always looking away---out the window, down at the table, off to one side, into her cell phone. I was able to engage her in a reasonable level of conversation, though, although I couldn't quite get her to share my intellectual excitement in various concepts.

What does that mean, when they look away? Is that good or bad?

Heineken, you may have come across a bit too intensely for her. Next time, try to relax more, at least pretend that it's just a lunch, or whatever, not an interview.

Hey, you had a date! Cool! She kept looking away? Probably means keep trying. With someone else. If you are going to salve your conscience with every effort before you become a hermit, you've got to commit big time, totally. Try a hundred of them and then call it quits. But remember, there are some really fine women, women who would be a blessing to you. But for every one of them there are a hundred who would laugh if you cut your finger slicing a steak.

Did she express any concepts that you found intellectually exciting ? Sometimes you find someone who actually shares interests but often (at least for myself) I find I grow to be interested in the other person's interest because I am interested in the person.

I wanna know if he dropped the peak oil bomb on the first date... That would be more than enough of a reason for a woman to start "looking away".
